Yep, Shinko Tour Masters, Rated to 150 mph. Good, cheap tires!
(and they'll fit on my street bike when the time comes).
There was only my 1000 and a 1800 representing goldwing's at the event.
I was racing for a record and he was doing the "run whatcha brung" class, which is just for the experience and a time slip.
The starting line:

The class that I was in is: MPS - CF 1000
That's Modified partially streamlined - classic fuel 1000cc.
Modified - it ain't stock
Partially streamlined - bodywork
Classic - engines produced before 1980
Fuel - any fuel allowed ( gas, E85, nitro, methanol, nitrous, ect)
1000 - maximum engine displacement 1000 cc's.
It's kinda neat that even tho I was in the Fuel class and could use anything,
I ran my bike on regular 'ol 87 octane pump gas from my local Co-Op.
Nothing special.
The bike that previously held the record was a cb1000 with nitrous.
That record was set in 2014.

before any bike can race on the salt, It must go through "scrutineering"
This is where it is checked for class compliance, safety stuff, ect.:

Just thinking remove the fan and the plate (leave the struts) for the front upper mount and replace the radiator with one from say a VTX (narrower but maybe a bit taller) to reduce a little wind resistance. Maybe 140 possible?

The cooling fan and the plate have nothing to do with the aerodynamics of the bike.
They are hidden behind the radiator and out of the air flow.
The plate is still on there because I needed a place to mount some wiring.
also because I didn't want salt spray to be blown up all over my carburetors.
The reason that there is still a fan on the bike is because I didn't want my engine to overheat.
I was working on the premise of durability and dependability.
"To finish first... First you must finish".

Good question !
I have a digital tach on the bike but to be honest... I was too busy riding the bike to
pay much attention to the gauge.
I know that I saw a 8, so I'm gonna say 8K+.
I think it was pretty much maxed there due to the amount of air in the atmosphere.
Denser air = more oxygen molecules - oxygen makes the engine to spin more rpm's.
The density altitude changes constantly on the salt with the air becoming thinner as the
day heats up.
People go faster in the morning when the air is coolest.

After breaking a record and before the displacement is measured, the
engine is "sealed" with paint on bolts, valve cover joints, head gaskets, ect.
before it can leave impound.
The officials take adherence to the rulebook serious.
As they should.
A great bunch of very smart, dedicated motorcycle people.

We all know that racing stars have big fancy rigs.
Huge custom motorcoaches, merch. trailers, ect..
land speed racing is no different.
It is really impressive to see some of the teams pit setups.
Hospitality areas,
crew members all in matching shirts,
Computers and rolling tool boxes.
High class stuff.
Nice, good for them!
And........ Then there is us
.

Our accommodations may have been a bit sparse, But my wife and I had a great adventure,
and had everything needed to set a record!
Life is good!

Well, I guess that's about all for this thread.
The bike is back home, put back together and running again.

I don't know where this project is going to go from here,
but I do know that with the added knowledge that can only be gained through experience,
I CAN make my bike go faster!
