GL1000 race bike build
Hello,
I live in Sweden and I found this wonderful website for a while. love this page and all the lovely builds that have been posted.
I was going to share my own build.
I drive classic road racing and have been doing it for some years.
A couple of years ago I got the idea to build a race bike from a Gl1000. I have almost completed the construction now but some parts remain.
chassis:
reinforced original frame
reinforced swing
41mm front fork
brembo brakes
isr brake discs
cone shock absorber
3,5” x18 rim in front
4,25” x18 rim in rear
Raised 40mm in the rear
engine:
ported and leveled cylinder heads
ignitech ignition
dynatek ignition coils
high-pressure pistons
new bearings throughout the engine
4-2-1 exhaust system
weber idf 40 carburetor
lightened crankshaft
stator wheel removed
starter device removed
75 camshafts

Re: GL1000 race bike build
Interesting build.
I'd like to know how it handles with a 18" front tire. It looks pretty cool.
what are "high-pressure pistons?
When are you planning on racing it? let us know how it does. The proof is in the pudding.

Re: GL1000 race bike build
Hi thanks
I had it on the track a few months ago and I can say that it's like maneuvering a bus
The pistons are high compression pistons. google translate thought it sounded better

Re: GL1000 race bike build
I also think this is a very interesting build. Nice work. I really like that fairing. If you don’t mind, I also have a couple of questions.
1) Do you know what the final compression ratio will work out to with those pistons? I’d be worried a bit about OEM head gaskets with higher compression.
2) How heavy will the finished Motorcycle be?
3) In what class will you running…in other words what will be your competition?

Re: GL1000 race bike build
hi, nice to hear you like it.
the compression is about 10.5: 1, I also had thoughts that there may be problems with the cylinder head gasket.
I have driven it for about two hours and so far no major problems.
Have seen that some drive turbo on these engines, maybe they use copper gasket and if I have problems it will be to use copper gasket for me too.
I have reduced the dry weight to about 200kg.
It will compete in class 7A, it is motorcycles from 250-1300cc year model 77-87. So there will be tough resistance. Honestly, it's more of a fun bike than a winning bike
