Still slugging on,

but a set back.

Motor runs great, but after 3 cycles of the fan, circulation stopped, abit unnoticed till the rad failed.

Went for the easy, got a new aluminum one of flea bay, with fancy pusher fan and installed same

Yep, same deal, runs great, but no water movement, and yep, tested thermostat and it was fine, but swapped it out anyways.

Now remember, this crate motor has sat for decades unused. So I have a blockage somewhere inside. Maybe some sort of critter or the like.

Now I am going to back up, remove rad, and front cover to flush the block as best I can...

I am open to suggestions too...

Remove the thermostat and push water, reverse-flow into the cooling system?

That's where I am at, my worries are there isn't much room for anything other than water to come out past the water pump.

I presume the water pump impellor isn't bound up?
You could work through different water passages by removing those coolant, return-to-thermostat case, tubes and their 90 degrees cast 'joints' on top of both cylinder heads.

Ya Cliff, water pump spins when running as it should, and no wobble either.

Hey Greg, looks like we are both chasing similar gremlins. Mine is a lot older engine and I'm leaning towards a head gasket failure. Cliff has pointed me towards a test kit that checks coolant for exhaust gasses that might be my next move. I'll be watching to see what you find.

Spins fine? It is a driven unit. Has a slot on the back. It should not spin ubless the engine is running.

I had an Dodge Intrepid bought used that developed an overheating condition only after it ran at speed for awhile. Couldn't get it to overheat in the garage and not always on the road. Intermittent and unpredictable. I took it to a local dealer several times and they could never get it to overheat but after awhile they believed I was serious about my complaint (not imagining it) and asked to keep it for awhile. I let them have it for over a week and they managed to get it to overheat once but found no rhyme or reason for it. They began to flush the coolant passages as best they could in whatever direction they could manage and just when they were going to put it all back together and quit the problem they managed to flush out a small piece of radiator hose. The vehicle history clearly stated that it had a rad hose replaced with the original owner. After they got it out no more overheating problems. I really had to hand it to that service dept for going above and beyond to correct the issue.

Could remove its two screws, rotate the "joint" 180 degrees and fasten back onto both cylinder heads. Push their coolant tube, now facing outwards, back into the "joint" and alternately push some low pressurized water into either side of the flow path from the water pump around the left side and right side cylinder liners.

I guess pulling the front cover might be in order. Agood back flush might turn up something. Or, is there any chance there is a lot of air traped in the system? Or themestate stuck shut. Try running it without the thermostate in, and see if you have circulation. That would eliminate blockage in the block, or confirm it. The engine sat a while.... anything is possible.
