Made him an offer for just the tank and I would pull it and he quit talking to me. Guess I insulted him. Checked on my attempt to seal the leak and it still leaks a bit when I apply air pressure to the tank. Maybe applying more pressure than necessary caused the bubbles but I'm still hoping I can get the seal to hold.
Just realized that I might have a good 1200 tank that I am willing to part with. I'l ck if you are interested

Thanks Doug, I will keep that in mind. I'm still trying to get by with what I have while keeping expenses down. Had a couple of things pop up lately that hit the wallet pretty hard.

Just recall that Honda made a bunch of these. Patience may pay off but that is hard to find during riding season.

The leak may be stopped. Was able to force in some air pressure without detecting any leaks with my soapy water. Gonna run with it for now and keep an eye on it.

Double checked on the leak area today and it is dry. Put the seat back on and put the cover back on before the rain started.

Good news, but keep your casual search going for a tank cause you never know for a spell. Glad it is a rider again.

Took her out today to run some errands and stopped at the park for some glamor shots. Can't say I'm completely done because there are still some ideas floating around in my head. This has been a fun and learning project to say the least. Still need to decide if I want to sell and start something else or keep and ride. Lets hear some comments about possible improvements and upgrades.

So very much improved from the ride you bought. 1200's like that are a great ride, so it would be hard for me to sell.

Took her out to stretch her legs a bit yesterday and uncovered a couple of issues. Topped off the tank and found out it still leaks down below the rear bracket. No choice but to pull the tank and see what needs to be done. Also the temp gauge was reading higher than I was expecting. It stayed almost up to the red area most of the time. Checked the radiator and return tank and both were filled. Checked the temps with my infrared and it showed 180 - 195 around the hoses and water pump area. Need to check the 7 volt regulator to see if it is running high. There is no white smoke but there is some antifreeze smell when stopped. Guess it's back to working on this one.

Based on the temp, seems like a 7V issue but that does not explain the coolant smell. So perhaps two issues there. Sorry but you are correct that the tank must be removed.

In just a little over two hours the tank is out. I'm going to check out a local seller and maybe simply do a replacement.

Yes, that is the best, as it takes a long time to clean out the tank enough for a weld and you already tried the easier repair. Two hours to get the tank out is excellent time. Will call you when I need to remove my next one. A replacement is best. Good luck getting a good deal Al.
