Re: So this guy walks into a chat room
This guy walks into a bar and asks the bartender if he can show him something unbelievable, he gets a free beer? The bartender says alright. So the man puts a Hampster and two frogs on the bar and all of a sudden the two frogs jump up and start into a Broadway medley. Well, a man at the end of the bar said, "That's amazing, I'll give you $1,000 for the frogs." The man agreed the guy took off. The bartender said to him, "You could have gotten more for the frogs." The man said, "Frogs are easy to come by, the Hampster's a ventriloquist."

Re: So this guy walks into a chat room
I rode it to work today and ran with an old Kawasaki police bike for a while. I toasted another speedo so I'll have to fix one. We had a nice talk at the light near work but that is always a short talk.
It's time to chack all the torque settings and re tighten the new neck bearings anyway.

Re: So this guy walks into a chat room
This bike has not been tuned since 2007 and it is getting ready, how the years fly by. The points look tired and the gap is down to 14 thou so time to fit the dyna, plugs, and an oil change. My newest LTD is doing the riding to work until I fix yellow up, another guy wanted to buy yellow when I warmed her up today so she ain't that shabby yet.
Plenty of dirt under the faux tank sides, she is going to need a general cleaning and polishing too.
Tonight after work and more work on the nearly done rental house re furb I started to fit the Dyna. First thing was the resistor. Sides down and air cleaner out gave room to work, I was surprised. The resistor screws are fairly easy to get to. The Dyna resistor is a little larger, I had to bend and re drill the bracket. One connector had to be replaced also as it was a poor fit.
Tomorrow I'll start fitting the Dyna itself.

Re: So this guy walks into a chat room
The Dyna went in well enough, I also found it easier to pull the circlips and remove the weights, time to lube them anyway. The power wire was long enough and I soldered it to the flasher power as recommended. The only panic I gave myself was forgetting the color code for number 2 and trying to time it to the wrong wire. Until I realized what must be wrong I was going even more nuts than usual.
It definitely idles better but then I'm comparing it to old points and plugs.

Re: So this guy walks into a chat room
Just curious, although Dyna has you wire the Dyna to the flasher wire, I felt a lot better running it to the fuse box and giving it it's own power. That way I will never have to diagnose the Dyna and the flasher system at the same time?

Re: So this guy walks into a chat room
I just used standard NGKs. She is rough in the mid range, it may have to do with power pick up. The directionals barely flash indicating power available to them has dropped. I'll add a relay to see if that helps.

Re: So this guy walks into a chat room
She developed a leak coming home yesterday. Some dork used an old radiator hose and stock clamps which are well known to leak. The same dork will try fitting a regular screw clamp first as the hose felt fine and it is just a couple of drops a day. Next winter I'll give her new Honda hoses but I just wanted to test it.
As far as riding suspension, shifting, clutch, brakes, and electrics are now working pretty well.
The points are a guestimated fifteen years old and I suspect it was last synced then. She starts easy but is a little rough in transitions, I plan to give her some Seafoam and a proper tune up after I get the yellow bike sorted again.
What is noticeable is the bike is a little taller and the LTD handlebars must have been inspired by Easy Rider.
Once everthing is worked out it will be a good bike, no speedo but I'll fix that next winter.

I'll see Dave again Tuesday and will pass along this info...most of it anyway, although I don't think that he is the dork...

Re: So this guy walks into a chat room
The dork would be me....
Tonight I took 20 minutes to install a relay and fuse. I just ran the bike around the block to test but it started with no choke and idled down to 500 rpm before I raised it a bit. Next winter I'll tidy this up, I left extra wire and just ran it to the battery, when it rains I'll run it to the solenoid.
The power problem is corrected with less drain through the switch.

Re: So this guy walks into a chat room
Cookie, Glad you are keeping her original. She looks great! What kind of bags do you have on the bike? I could use a set of leather bags that will fit below the turn signals like that. I like the look much better than the clunky fiberglass bags I had before.
Hope for the best, expect the worst and take what comes!
