Enjoy your ride, use ear plugs, much better and you can still hear what's going on around you but without the wind noise.

Re: Coast to coast in the U.S.
Yeah, I do use ear plugs every ride, but it mostly takes away the higher frequensies. I still find a lot of rumble in the helmet....
I figure I go buy a lock for the front brake, and for the nights a fat bike chain through the rear wheel, and a cover too. How do you guys go about it on the road? Which locks do you recommend? Do I need special rated locks for the insurance?
Yesterday the P.O. started to send pics from the renovation. As I wake up he's still going... It really is like a new bike now! Much nicer than mine here in Sweden. Also my contacts in the U.S. said it was like riding a new bike and the smoothest ride of all the prospects, including a very nice 81 model. Can't wait to see it in person!I figure I go buy a lock for the front brake, and for the nights a fat bike chain through the rear wheel, and a cover too. How do you guys go about it on the road? Never bothered locking mine on the road. Usually put it up on center and lock the steering stem and that is it.

Your bike wouldn't qualify as a highly stolen model. I've never locked or chained any of my bikes while on the road and I've traveled coast to coast both east west and north south.

Wow... But I think I still will bring a lock for the brake disc, since thats lightweight, small and fairly cheap here... Just so that the average junkie not will be able to roll it away too easy..

That should be plenty, I think most thieves here are too lazy to bother with anything they have to work to steal. In 40 years of riding here I have always found my bike right where I left it!

Re: Coast to coast in the U.S.
You need to get out an ride to build your stamina up. There will be days that it will be necessary to cover 400+ miles minimum, believe me and if your not up to it your goal of Los Angeles is out of the question. That goes for your pillion rider as well.

Re: Coast to coast in the U.S.
Haha.. I did that once, and I will not try it again!
I had my first bike stolen actually.. like 25 years ago. A Yamaha RD125LC. I had a wire and padlock on it, but some other kids stole it. The police found it in a ditch the morning after. Luckily there was no damage!

I use a disk lock when I travel. Easy to carry, and keeps the roll away guy at bay. But have ne ver had a problem, But I do try and get a room where I can park in front, or can see the bike. Also a cover helps to hide it a little, and to g

Yeah, disk lock and cover will be the way to get some sound sleep i think. A cover also keeps the drunk by-passers late at night uninterested, at least in my neighbourhood. Otherwise there´s always that someone who wants to mess with everything....

You can stash it at my place, and if you never come and get it I won't mind.mr west wrote:Have to think about what to do with the bike after... sell it? ship it? stash it somewhere?
