Started this morning in Grand Junction. Weather was gorgeous. Straight run NE on I70 for about 80 miles. I should have stopped and filled up but I took a chance. Come to find out the next gas on my route (not including Aspen) was close to 100 miles. So I got on 82. Took that down and went through Carbondale then down to Aspen. Busy UPPER class town. Looked to be too expensive for me even to slow down!! On down and into some serious mountain passes. From Aspen down to the intersection of 24 at Twin Lakes is about 40 miles of pure beauty. Independence Pass is just over 12,000 feet. The snow drifts on the side of the road were 10 feet plus in some areas. It was just opened up last week from the winter snows. Just a tremendous run. Unfortunately any pull off areas were packed so not many pics. On down 24 through Granite and into Buena Vista where I finally got gas and Breakfast.

Continued East on 24 through Divide and the weather was starting to get questionable. By the time I got to Woodland Park I had to stop and put my travel bag in trash bags. Anyway on down and picked up the road to Pikes Peak. The weather was spitting but not bad as I climbed. The idiot cage drivers were the issue. So many hairpin turns I could not count them and the big SUV's in front of me like to stop in the middle of each one!! I am doing like 5 or 6 mph with the handle bars cranked all the way slipping the clutch and trying to power up through these curves and these "people" are bringing me to a stop. It was VERY Frustrating and very dangerous for me. I would lay back and try to give them room and it did not work. It is a 16 mile climb and I spent most of it in 1st gear. Anyway I finally got to where they stopped us. The Summit is under construction so the parking is almost non existent. You stop at the 16 mile mark and take a shuttle for the last 2 miles. By that time I was ready to let someone else drive

Up at the Summit was nice. I can imagine on a clear day it is quite spectacular. I fooled around there for a bit then took the shuttle back to my bike. Started down the mountain and that is when the weather turned to full on CRAP. Snow, Sleet, Freezing rain, Half inch hail, and LIGHTNING all within half and hour. It was a wild ride down the mountain

One of the views from the Carbondale pull off.

Uh... the selfie was NOT required.

Lol. Outstanding trip, excellent commentary and nice pictures.

I’m supposed to be in Taos (Valkyrie yearly Inzane) this week but last minute issues at home prevented my making the trip. Bummed.

Roll safe!

South Winds 25 gust to 35 and I give for the day. In Wakeeney Ks, 1,450 miles to go and I mentioned doing it in 2 days and the wife freaked out. Lesson learned, don't tell her the miles!!! Got some pics from this morning I will post in a bit.

Weather ahead of me is nasty. Last night was quite bad. Couple of tornadoes on the ground about 30 miles west of here. I think this system to my East now is weakening so hopefully by the time I get there it will have diminished.

I’m not overly fond of the green stuff when on the road, either…

Take great care WF.

Made it to Fenton Mo (SW suburb of St Louis). 540 miles. This morning was kind of nasty but it got better as the day went on. Some real rain but mostly drizzle. Lots of Wind. First half of the day it was 20-30 cross wind. The wind shifted to a head wind and the temp rose. From 50 in the morning to the Low 90's for most of the afternoon. I think I wore down the left side of my tires!!!

Saw a the cleanup of a nasty wreck of a SUV hauling a big Camper. Looked like the whole rig tumbled some. Hoping everyone was OK.

927 Miles to home and the Wife insists I 2 day it. So probably looking to stop in Huntington WV or maybe Lexington Ky if the weather has not cleared. Lots of rain in the forecast for WVa/Va. Home is predicting record rainfall for tomorrow.

Right now I am at 6,264 miles and 97 hours moving time for the trip.

Wish I would have known you were this close. It's only about 10+ miles from me. Was in that area last night for a wedding reception. Would even consider riding with you a while in the morning but have a early appointment. Missed opportunity.

It happens. My original schedule had me running through here in the middle of the day but weather forced some changes.

Drove through WV last Wednesday and it rained (poured) through most of the state. Broke the wiper on the drivers side near Huntington and had to stop for emergency repair. Rough drive that day.
