Re: Coast to coast in the US back again!
DAY 22
Willville is really best campsite so far. Started with a long overdue shower that was great. Out on the patio I was offered free coffee and was drawn into conversation with the five-six gentlemen there. They were all curious about my accent and then my country and our trip and our background and our instruments and my impression of the US and its people etc etc. We even went in and out of politics with good mood. Turned out one of the gentlemen was Will of Willville himself. He certainly has a special kind of humour.... Turned out another one was Bill of Willville. Slowly I started to understand that none of them was actually camping there, they just hang out there drinking coffee everyday....
After packing up we just went over to the old fashion country store right next to Meadows of Dan for breakfast. Great place, with lots of local stuff and local people coming and going. I'm starting to enjoy chatting with the occasional elderly cowboy in places like this. Good mood.
At noon we hit the Blue Ridge Parkway again. Just great driving. A bit chilly, but great. No rain. Hardly any cars. Great driving. The parkway speed limit is 45 or sometimes 35, but it feels more appropriate to go 50-55 most of the times... and just as we crossed an open field at 60, the sheriff stood parked on the other side. This is the first sheriff I've seen for days, so that gave me a minor heart attack.
Luckily they were too busy eating dounuts to notice us passing by.
At the end of the parkway we rewarded us with a chinese buffet before heading to our to date most expensive camp site. 27 dollars for tent site. But they called it a "resort" rather than a camping. Full of RV's, community house, shop, music stages, a creek, fire places, etc etc etc. Lots of people and no privacy, but its ok....
Now only about 400 miles left!
Tomorrow we'll do the Skyline Drive.

DAY 23
That big beer before bedtime made me go up and pee maybe four times! We woke up early but feeling so tired that it wasnt until noon we got going...
Yeah, skyline drive is like an extension of the BRP. Looks the same, but speed limit is only 35 so it took a lot of time.... Some parts are as beautiful as BRP, great views! After the skyline we tried an american buffet for a change. It was decent actually! Interesting also from a sociological perspective....
Super dazed from the buffet we decided to go for a motel rather than go another hour for camping and pitching the tent in the dark.
The neighbours were nice even though they didnt have many teeth. But without them smiling and laughing we wouldnt be able to tell.

DAY 24
Long nights good sleep in a comfortable bed! Still felt kind of exhausted waking up. The fun riding is mostly over now. Today we had about 230 highway miles to do, so after some power bars and coffee we got going. After about 100 miles we had to get gas and it turned out there was a buffet next doors...
After another 100 miles we went on to some smaller back roads into New Jersey that were actually really nice! Pretty houses from mid 19th century, and we made a stop at farmers market before hitting the campground. The tours last supper was a picknick in front of the lake at sunset.
Tomorrow, we have about 70 miles to NYC!

Re: Coast to coast in the US back again!
Pennsylvania and New Jersey are really nice coming off the highway! I was kicking myself after I realized we drove around Amish country. A lot of really good produce in the city come from farms in that part of Pennsylvania. We ended up finding an apple orchard just over the border in NJ that had huge 1 pound Honeycrisp apples.
Can’t believe how close we are to home!

Re: Coast to coast in the US back again!
Last day and the last miles were, luckily, uneventful! Reached Brooklyn before noon.
This whole trip has been unusually undramatic. Most dangerous situations were probably two deer in the ditch in New Jersey, and last miles in Brooklyn, with all crazy car drivers and people just walking out combined with potholes everywhere.
Bike is just running and running though.
No oil consumption.
Filled air twice
Coolant fine
Brakes fine
Fuel line was moist one time, but repositioning the clamp helped
Got some back pain around day 20, but pulling back the handles helped a bit.
Tyres got another coast to coast left in them i think.....
Thanks for following this trip, and stay tuned for next episode of Rocky and Bullwinkle... and friends!
