Weber DCOE on Goldwing?

#1

Post by earthquake »

Has any one ever used a or seen a GL with a Weber DCOE side draft before? I was going to use a pair of 40mm IDF's but have read that taller riders [I'm 6'5"] might have a problem with their knees hitting the carbs. I have a 40mm DCOE on the shelf and making the manifold would not be too hard, the only thing that bothers me is it will be behind the radiator.

I just found this post. I considered dual 40DCOE's. Here is the manifold I came up with. It's the right hand side looking from the inside of the bike.

The purple colored things are NOS nozzles.
I considered using Jenvey throttle bodies and a micro-squirt controller. It looked much the same since the particular throttle bodies are bolt-ons for a weber manifold.

The intake runners are equal length but the severe bend in the front runner would have caused a lot of turbulence. Tuning may have been an issue since air flow to the front cylinders would be different than to the rear cylinders.

The final nail in the coffin was that the best price I got to make the manifolds was $3400 for the pair. Another $700 for new DCOE's. I only paid $600 for the bike.

I ended up with Randakk's manifold and 40IDF's and I'm quite pleased with the power, the look, the whole thing.
