Re: Shade Tree Single Solution by HOTT
What size jets are you running? I take it that since you don't have a square plenum like some of these setups that you have no pooling problems to speak of. Nice job.

Re: Shade Tree Single Solution by HOTT
I just did an interesting read over at the Steve Saunders site (http://www.goldwingfacts.com/forums/for ... 983-1.html).
Essentially a fella just dropped a carb adaptor onto the top of the stock plenum, gutted the stock carbs and sealed all their holes. The stock carbs are now just tubes without any other function and his Solex is doing all the mixing work. He says it's running good (not many pics).
It occurs to me that the stock plenum might have enough area to fit a little 4bbl on top of it.
Isn't somebody here (KBou?) working on an FI setup using something along those lines (with gutted carbs as throttle bodies)?

Well that's it in a nutshell. No pooling or puddling.don't have a square plenum like some of these setups
I won't bore you with the design except to say,
Look at the set-ups that have the problems.....
"H"designs and odd plenums create unpredictable results.
Heating the plenum just throws another curve.
Disclaimer; If you have one of these set-ups and it works well for you great!
Jet sizes that are finding 'happiness' with my systems are in this area..What size jets are you running?
idle 1...............55,65
idle 2...............55,50
primary............135,145
secondary........150,170
air prime..........170
air second........180
Emulsion..........F-6
Will these #'s work for you? I don't know and I'm not making any claims.
(the system is real forgiving, a tinker-er's dream)

Re: Shade Tree Single Solution by HOTT
Thanks for freely posting your jetting info. I think you've got a real nice setup there, simple and direct, and the 2 bbl. carb makes a lot of sense. Not huge and over carbed like I see on a lot of setups. I'm thinking seriously of trying this myself.

Re: Shade Tree Single Solution by HOTT
Greg, thanks for bringing that up...
I enjoy the back yard creativeness.
The problem is... is when some one tries a less than good set-up,
and IT doesn't work all that well,
then from there on the attitude is "they ALL suck"(no pun intended)
I'm trying to keep it real. Our (NGW 'Unique carb.') site is taken more seriously IMHO.
(and Yes, I have tried a 2bbl. on a stock, sleeved rack. It was fun, has problems. I'm sure it is a better idea for EFI)
I did an interesting read there on single carbs....... 70 pages later my head hurt.I just did an interesting read over at the Steve Saunders site

kb0ou(John) is using a throttle body off a 98 Escort with 4 Bosch injectors at the intakes. I'll be glad when he gets it done. I want to see how it does. I drop in once in awhile to take a look at it. He's having a lot of fun with it. He would like to get a 1500 and try the same approach on it. He's really taking his time and thinking through each step.

My set-up uses the ""H" design" with heat and absolutely predictable results with no "pooling or puddling" because of it. More importantly, no icing that is experienced with the type of manifold you're using because of it being unheated. You should check the 34 PICT thread going here. His manifold is the same as yours, isn't it? He somewhat combatted the icing problem by heating the neck portion just below the carb flange. What is different about yours that it does not do the same?
I think it's great that you're making a manifold to offer others HOTT. I'm not sure why you'd take the route of promoting it the way you are other than a few dollars and some notariety of the hour with an old and dated design of known problems, but hey, ...it's your deal. I've a review of that design published by a forum member here if you want to read it.
I know you know better Man...
Good Luck.

Hmmm.
Hit a nerve did I Captain.
I seem to remember this being MY thread.
People are asking ME the questions,
People are asking ME to build them one.
Just as they were & are over at S.S.
And I STILL have the RIGHT answers.
