I can confirm this. But they last a good while even "not in ideal" position. Sideways upwards is definately no option because this position will cause a collision with the engine case. Maybe it would be a good choice to weld it in the 12o'clock position from the top.
If it fails I'll find out:-)

Hi Don Karlos! Good to see You back here! Just curious: The TBI unit in post #36 is a VAG mono motronic from the nineties, right? What throttle diameter did You use? There were several from 32mm to 40mm. I was thinking about this way also, but could not find anybody to hack the chip in the ecu. Does anybody here know a genius who might be able to do it? I can send him the .bin file which I read from the chip if he wants to try. I need the proper definition file so that TunerProRT can process the .bin data.
Grateful for any input! $$reward$$

Does Rosetta Stone offer courses in this language you're speaking? ;)

Karl, glad you came through the medical challenges ok, and the project looks good! What rod did you use to tig the intake casting? As for megasquirt 2 (microsquirt) tables, I posted some at the link in my signature. If this for the EMU ecu, not sure how compatible the values will be though?
Taunusrainer, as you may know, ordinary ve and spark tables can be fairly easy to spot in a bin file, and identified to tunerpro, but nothing else will be!

Eric: Sorry for my language, I'm not a native speaker. But I try hard to be understood.

Socrace: A friend who tried it found the tables but could not find any axis. Would You give it a try?

The idea was to run the VW tbi (1bbl) with the matching VW/Bosch computer. This computer is so solid that You can buy it for 20$ at every junkyard. Nobody needs them, they never fail. Sellers are happy to have them gone.
Your tbi looks similar to the VW unit. Is it 1bbl or 2bbl?

TaunusRainer, just joking about my inability to grasp all of the jargon for fuel injection. I actually enjoy reading and learn a little each time you share.

Please try my sig link again. Had to repost a bunch of images "lost" by the hosting site photobucket.
Also, just added to that link the latest msq file for the microsquirt ecu. As you know, the msq file has all tables and most other tuning info, and can be read as a text file or loaded directly into tunerstudio.
Hope it helps.

TaunusRainer, pm sent.

Socrace, I did not get the pm.

The Bosch/Volkswagen computer has completely different maps. It is an alpha-n-system. No map sensors.

@socrace: The rod I used was a gold one (universal). Use aggressive waveform for better cleaning! Project is on hold:-( Founded a company :-) We are building friction welders! But, Summer is coming and the bike came back to my mind!

Cool! I did a lot of work on friction stir welding. Do you do any of that?

Wow! @Toehead I don't often meet people knowing these words. Friction stir welding is one of the processes we use. Mostly of course we use the classic friction welding. Single headed or double headed up to 200 to for eg. Trailer axles, drive shafts or E-Motor rotors. We have a special self centering design which gives us 10 times the accuracy as our competitors at same price level :-) They hate us. Somehow my project isn't making progress. I have not much time because of my company :-(

Best of luck on your company and your project. It sounds like good technology!

I focused mostly on the research side of the process (Eg, determining residual stress fields, etc). It's been a few years since I worked on this though.
