Yes, it can be done but the oil and filtration system is the key. No more than a 10% added oil, if so you tend to take solids out of suspension. You should also monitor the oil temp as well, another critical aspect. Last but not least the filtration system must be quite good. Changed the oil in our destroyers and frigates every four years using these guidelines.

For Mike - you mentioned the JASO standard. MA represents oil with no friction modifiers, MA 2 the same but safe for bikes with catalytic converters. JASO standard came out in 1999 and is a good guide, but any high detergent good quality oil with no additives (friction modifiers) is acceptable as per the owner manual. The API donut should also have the lower half blank.

Actually, no. If the four-stroke motor oil is rated SH or later, it has to have the MA stamp. That's what the Kawasaki bulletin says and the other manufacturer's bulletins as well.
