So I'm not sure what you are trying to say on this motorcycle forum?

Uhhh, this particular forum is "Trains, Planes and Automobiles".

And man oh man, a '50 Caddy 2 door is TRULY an Automobile.

Note that the NGW "Forum" is comprised of numerous sub-Forae. If you're only interested in motorcycles, don't tune into this one.

In HS I had a 68 coupe deville too, dark blue/green with black vinyl top and black leather seats , It was awesome and that 472 under the hood was the best at traveling down the highway at stupid speeds considering it had drum brakes all around.

My first car out of HS was a 70 Pontiac GP, it wasn't the quickest car I've owned but it was definitely the fastest. It's RA3 400 combined with a 2:73 rear gear made that car peg its 140 mph speedo with ease. Looking back and remembering those high speed runs I did with that car, I'm lucky I'm still alive.

Pictures, people, pictures!

Image

Ok, this isn't my actual car but I did have a yellow 74 Renault R17 as my first car. I took it to a concert about 2 weeks after I had it and it overheated and started to smoke like a mother. So we stumbled out of the car in the dark, opened the reverse hood and peered through the cloud of steam emanating from the engine bay. As it began to dissipate I went "Whaaaaa?"

Image

This engine had belts on both the front and back of the engine, no recognizable air cleaner and what was the battery doing up there! I had no idea what I was even looking at. We slapped the hood down and kept going. For another 20 minutes when it blew a hole through a piston head.

Learned a lot about motors from that escapade.

It had a bit over 100k miles on it when I got it so the integrity of it's suspension components were iffy and the bias ply GFGoodrich TA's definitely weren't rated for those speeds either. Installing an aluminum intake along with a Holley 750 carb didn't help to improve the safety factor either. It would get going so fast and so much air rushing underneath it that it would start to loose steering response once the speedo was pegged. With all the above combined with my youthful stupidity and yeah most definitely I had a guardian angel looking out for me. I had so many fond memories of the car that I bought another 70 GP about 20 some years ago that had been fully restored. I had to sell the car due to financial priorities but I've got a pic of it somewhere around here.

I didn't have to wait until after high school, I bought an Anniversary Gold '62 Impala SS 327 4bbl 300hp in the summer of '67 between my junior and senior years, $500. I had dual exhaust with glass pack mufflers so it had the sound. Typical high school kid I ran the wheels off of it at mostly way above the legal speed limit. I could beat 390 Ford Galaxies and Mercury Marauders by about a car length. I sold it when I joined the Navy in October of '69, rust was already beginning to bubble through the quarter panels due to Michigan winters. I still miss that car. Not my actual car but a dead ringer for it.

I changed the volvo from an automatic to a standard in my parents gravel driveway. Cost me $75 for all the necessary parts except the clutch cable that I had to buy new. It was $50
