Never thought I would be reading about old colman stoves and lanterns on a goldwing forum. I dont really get why they are so attractive but I can hardly walk by one at a garage sale.
I've been thinking about these 2 stoves that I found on Facebook market place. The 425 looks pretty new, the other one looks like the grill never got used at all.
I showed them to my wife and she asked about the other 4 stoves that I already have. I guess she doesn't get it either.

Here we go!
I've got a modern propane stove that doesn't really count.
I haven't done anything with the 425D, not sure if it will even hold pump pressure, just paid $5 for it at a garage sale. That's a pretty neat one, the legs fold up and locks the top. The 413E has a paper towel roll that flips over when you open the top. My dad gave me the 425E, we used it all the time when I was a kid camping with my family.
The lantern are neat also, they give off lots of light and attract pounds of bugs. The 486A and the 488A where also used on family vacation trips. I got the nickel plated one off a friend. It was pretty rough but I took a buffer to the tank and replaced the globe, now it looks like a hundred bucks.

I'm not a stovie either, but I have 3 now. Well 4 but it belongs to a friend. Well 6 counting the two single burners. Well 7 if you count the propane stove. That nickle plated lantern is a beauty. I got a 1934 220B but it needs some work. Its funny once people find out you like lanterns, they start finding them for you.

Interesting thing about the quality of the light from those lanterns. Years ago I was on a deer hunting trip with a friend and just as legal light was fading he shot a nice buck in thick cover which promptly ran off and managed to hide itself before expiring. With the little natural light we had we couldn't track the blood trail very far so back to camp to retrieve the Coleman lantern. It was amazing that fresh blood actually looked like it floureced in that light. It was an easy task to track down the buck which had managed to fall under thick brush and completely hid itself although I'm sure that was just coincidence since my friend hit it square in the heart.

I like to hang a coleman lantern off of a sturdy branch that's about 15 foot in the air over our camp site. I tie a good size rock on to the end of a rope and throw it over the branch. I then tie the lantern on one end of the rope and the other end to the tree. It's like having your own street lamp in your campsite, tons of light.

That is so neat! Do you get nervous leaving fuel in the tanks. I can't ever get all of it out, plus I'm lazy and tired after camping and just leave it in there.
Those tops get screaming hot. I made the mistake of taking off the screw top after running the lamp for a while. That little nut ended up branding my finger tips, of course it was on my right hand so I had to deal with that all weekend.

I will leave fuel in them till I burn it all out. I try to light them and rotate through my collection. I think it might be a good idea to let the pressure out if they are going to sit a while. I love to light them. They aren't trailer queens !

That controlled explosion when you first light a lantern is the coolest part then you get that cool rocket sound after it warms up.
