1983 Standard complete motor and other parts

Post by sparkyrasmus »

Well, It's time to decide what to do with my 83 after taking it off road last August. In the ditch it lost the windshield and gauges, bent the rear fender and grab bar, took out the crash bars (but saved the engine). Handlebars are bent, mirrors are gone. But it looks as if the frame is ok, the forks seem unbent- no guarantees. The rebuilt brakes and Spiegler stainless hoses are good, except for the right front has an abrasion on the stainless. Exhaust is in OK shape for its age. Seat has a couple of patched spots but is serviceable. All in all it would be a great candidate for a refreshed motor swap for that one you have with the clogged carbs and the bad waterpump. You know the one I mean.
The bike was running great, but hasn't been started since the ill fated fourth Sunday of August 2021. I haven't taken any pics of it since the accident. It is now back to project status. I have most of the parts to fix it Frankenbike style, and the rest are available out there.
You can look at the build thread to see what had been done to it before custom by crunch.

Goldwings don't accelerate, they gain inertia.

1978 GL1000 - almost stock - needs a head replaced, parts are ready to install!
1979 GL1000 - Winter project/parts bike - custom "Busted"
1983 GL1100 Standard- raised from the dead and back to organ donor status
And the newest acquisition, 1979 XS 650F to be a sidecar tug. crossy.gif

Well It's still in the barn in a waiting for something state. SO I'll take this as a sign. I had repainted the sides, but they did get some scuffs in the crash. There seem to be no dents. Do you need the airbox or just the frame and faux tank covers? Send me a PM. Our internet is wonky so I could just have you call. PM me for my cell number.

Holy smokes! You’re right in my neck of the woods, just a little north. I’m sure it would go over like a lead balloon, but I might have to talk to the wife about it. I’ve been tossing around the idea of pulling the engine on my 83 to do the hydraulic clutch swap, and I could use a brake rebuild anyway. Now you’ve got my gears turning.

Yep, 80 miles up the road from you. I do have a bike trailer you could use, but you'd have to get it back. We could roll it in a pickup. I have ramps here.

I must’ve missed the notification! Probably because work has picked up quite a bit since planting season started.

I’ll send ya a PM with some other contact details.
