Re: Very Nice GL1200 Standard For Sale ($2600)
Lucien there is a guy in the intro section here: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=73983 that is looking for a gl1100 standard and I think he has tried to contact you. For some reason the pics for your original ad are no longer visible and just show as "image". One pic of your bike on page 2 is still there so you might want to repost the original pics. Just a thought. This at least will bump up your ad right?

Thanks for the heads-up! I shot him a private message, hopefully it gets to him.
EDIT: Yeah, something funky was up with the images. Hopefully the new ones should be a bit more stable. Again, thanks for letting me know!

Re: Very Nice GL1200 Standard For Sale ($2500)
Amazing! I've been watching this since it first went on sale. A rare bike, supposedly the holy grail of naked gold wings and no one has pounced. Actually, I was planning on selling mine, but was going to wait until this one sold to limit the competition. Changed my mind, thank goodness. What do you all think; is it covid or is it a rapidly shrinking market for the old wings due to our advancing ages?

Re: Very Nice GL1200 Standard For Sale ($2500)
If I had to guess? A lot of A for this year, and maybe a bit of B with a caveat. While PARTS for the Standard 1200s are rare as unicorn horns (current rhino population notwithstanding), the bikes themselves seem surprisingly common. And it may be that the Standard 1200s live in that off-area where it's too new for people looking for naked Goldwings, and also lacks too much of the comforts for people looking for an affordable "normal" Goldwing.
From what I've seen, it's probably going to pull the normal price for a 1200 Goldwing (which, at the moment, is pretty garbage if you're a seller), but not any more due to being a Standard. I've had a couple lowballs on Facebook Marketplace, but I'm willing to sit on it until next year before going a whole lot lower.

We're in the midst of a cultural revolution and a virus, that is changing the world for better or worse, so ebay it for "Buy it Now" for $3,000 and see where it goes to test the world market for max exposure.

Re: GL1200 Standard (Possibly Sold)
Lucien it is pretty sad that these bikes are under appreciated and seemingly hard to sell. Here in Canada they are actually a pretty rare model to see, yet do occasionally come up for sale. Top prices are between $2K and $2.5K from what I have seen listed, so likely sold for less if sold.
I have a wide variety of vintage Honda’s from the mid 70’s to mid 80’s and the GL1200 Standard is by far the best vintage bike I own. Turbine smooth power delivery with bags of torque and IMO the best iteration of the Goldwing four motor.
I have owned it for 10+ years and would never consider selling it for those kind of prices. Just not worth giving away my stewardship and hard work on the bike to a new owner for a few grand.

Re: GL1200 Standard (Possibly Sold)
I agree, they are worth more than the market seems to determine. I've got a mint one with 37K kilometers that's not worth selling as they don't fetch much over $2K. One of the best bikes I have owned.
The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits.

Re: GL1200 Standard (Possibly Sold)
The only upside is that due to whatever reason (location, time of year, whichever), there are a number of 1500 Valks in my area in the $3k-$3.5k range, and a Valkyrie would replace the niche the 1200 has held rather nicely. One I've got my eye on has STUPIDLY-low mileage to boot.
I'm not moving on anything until I can confirm the buyer has the bike in his possession, though. Buyer is down in Texas, and the bike should be shipping out this week.

The two-tone Valk Interstate is, IMHO, the most beautiful factory-produced motorcycle. And I don't like chrome!Lucien Harpress wrote: ↑Sat Oct 24, 2020 10:09 pm The only upside is that due to whatever reason (location, time of year, whichever), there are a number of 1500 Valks in my area in the $3k-$3.5k range, and a Valkyrie would replace the niche the 1200 has held rather nicely. The Tourer is no slouch either. But, then again, I may be a bit biased.

Re: GL1200 Standard (Possibly Sold)
Yes those Valks are a great bike for sure. The fellow I bought my GL1200 from many years ago only sold it and his blue 1978 or 79 GL1000 to buy a beautiful two tone burgundy and cream coloured Valk with the factory bags like above.

Re: GL1200 Standard (Possibly Sold)
I was thinking my 1200 and my yellow 1000 would both have to go to allow me to buy a Valk, but things (hopefully) worked out so I didn't have to sell both.
I've got some light customization ideas in mind for whenever I get mine. Bit of pinstriping. Maybe some wood trim....
