Re: Fuelpump rebuild gl1000 (It worked)
Rebuilt the fuel pump on my 75' as per instructions but using the diaphragm from Marxparts. Pretty straight forward, done with simple hand tools. Pump puts out a good puff of air. Wont be able to fire it up for a few weeks though....love this forum !

Re: Fuelpump rebuild gl1000 (It worked)
This is such a good forum for GL1000's. Just got mine going after 27 years stored and rode it today for the first time in all that time. She's still got heaps of grunt. The fuel pump needed renewal so got a second hand one here in Oz luckily and it works well but will be repairing the old one when I find some diaphram material. They must sell it in rolls somewhere....

page before from Sidecarbob,
Almost 2 years and the Marxparts diaphragm is still OK.
If you need one they are on this page http://www.marxparts.com/repro%20chevy_fuel.htm (last item at the bottom - still $6)

Re: Fuelpump rebuild gl1000 (It worked)
well..I think I'm in this leaking boat too. lol
tried to start the bike after installing the exhaust and I couldn't get it to start. After attempting for about 15 minutes I pulled a plug and..dry as a bone.
I'm going to pull the fuel line off to the carb to confirm my suspicion but I ordered 2 diaphragms anyway.

Re: Fuelpump rebuild gl1000 (It worked)
Update: 8 years later my rebuilt pump is still working perfectly. I am in the process of replacing the engine and I have removed the rebuilt pump for installation on the new engine.

Thanks. I'd pretty much decided to go electric if the parts bike pump didn't work, but it's great to have options.

Re: Fuelpump rebuild gl1000 (It worked)
I have a 1100 pump on my '78 - fit fine. I looked into rebuilding the 1000 pump (I still have it), but the phenolic valves appear to be breaking down and leaking. Is there a replacement source for those?

Re: Fuelpump rebuild gl1000 (It worked)
I'm in the middle of doing this very same rebuild - the most time-consuming part is drilling out that dang center-post; took me almost an hour, going slow - REAL slow - with an electric drill and careful eyeballing, but I got it 5 or 6mm in.... I tried to tap it with a M4x.70 tap, but so far no success. I'll get it...I just have to figure out what it wants...from what I've read that washer on the top is kind of important when putting the top back on, but what size washer is optimum?
I got the diaphragm on the Marxparts page here, down at the bottom - it's almost a perfect fit. You'll probably need to trim it, but it's close:

Re: Fuelpump rebuild gl1000 (It worked)
That's the diaphragm I used 9 years ago (still working fine). It definitely needs to be trimmed to fit the GL1000/1100 fuel pump. Read this:
