for anyone else looking for a good combination of price and convenient, http://www.rockauto.com has a good price on the t42015 bearings*. about half the price of Oriely's website. they're also a good source for timing belts. also search google for "rock auto discount", i found one on http://www.retailmenot.com for 5% off

Re: Rebuild the Timing Belt Tensioner - $20
I just rebuilt my tensioners, and Briang is on to a great idea. He said:
I used a regular hex head bolt, so I didn't have to worry about drilling the bearing.
This is what I did. It was super easy, and when you've finished cutting, the piece of the shaft remaining in the backing plate already has a hole in it that's exactly the right size to act as a bushing for an M10 bolt - no drilling required.Since I had to make bushings to reduce the size of the hole in the backing plate so the 10mm wheel stud could be used, I reasoned that if one were to first cut off the shaft which carries the tensioner roller this leaves, in place, the material which can become the required bushing, already pressed into the backing plate. There is enough of a gap between the plate and the roller to fit a hacksaw blade down it.
I used a regular hex head bolt, so I didn't have to worry about drilling the bearing.

I did this same Tensioner Conversion back in 09. I needed to take the radiator off today, so I pulled the timing belt covers to check on the Tensioners and found NO WEAR or any debris!! I took some pictures to show you my find!!! Enjoy, Bob

I think the heat shields were only used on some years, they were not on my 79. This is a great fix, no problems on my bike since it was done.

Re: Rebuild the Timing Belt Tensioner - $20
i studied a bit the matter, and I think the best would be to fabricate a special stud with a lathe... here the drawing...
what do you guys think? this would allow to still use the heatshields...

if you have access to a lathe that would work great.

Re: Rebuild the Timing Belt Tensioner - $20
I did the timing tensioner rebuild also. I used the 10 mm wheel studs. I measured the small OD of the stud behind the splines and drilled from the back of the plate far enough to make it easier to saw the stud off.
https://photos.app.goo.gl/hmHCeMBbwircdqbr2
Next I sanded the plate flat and used a stack of washers and a nut to pull the stud into the plate. The splines stick far enough through the plate to center the bearing. The back of the stud didn't cover the entirety of the old stud attachment that some guys punch out. Since I wanted to retain the backing plates, and rather than use a washer on the back I tack welded the studs in two places. Next I notched the backing plates to fit around the studs. I slid the bearings on and retained them with a lock washer, nut and plenty of red locktite.
https://photos.app.goo.gl/nRlq73sSsDqb6cAG2
The parts I used from Rock Auto where I also got the belts last year. I was hearing a noise like an old cheap roller skate wheel and the bearings didn't feel smooth like they did last year. I'm thinking it was about $30.
https://photos.app.goo.gl/ANAZxrjrbaLOTkvq1
I drained the coolant, removed the radiator hose fitting at the engine, loosened the radiator and the right crash bar swung them both out of the way without removing either.
My 78 or 79 didn't have the heat shields just a 3 hole L shaped backing bracket that I mentioned. I assume it ties the 3 bolt bosses together to dampen vibrations from the belts.

Re: Rebuild the Timing Belt Tensioner - $20
Did this back in Jan of 2016. Instead of grinding the old bearing off used a hacksaw to cut it off, faster and less messy. Used a M10x1.5x25 mm 10.9 GR Bolt (2) (countersunk head) for the new tensioner - with associated nylock nut. Removed all the old install:
Cheers
The new parts were: The countersunk bolt stuck out a bit so I used a hacksaw and file to trim - lots of meat left on the bolt head in case bearing has to be changed: Still working good after two year and 35K Kms.Cheers
