Beautifully done! A spot-on replacement that retaines the look and feel of factory original. We definately need to save this thread!

A suggestion was made by the ShopTalk crew if we could get you to start a How-To post in the "How To 4-Wings" forum for your Bonny mufflers. What we're shooting for is something similar to what Roady did in his post :
"How To Mount Harley Mufflers" http://www.ngwclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12934

If you're not comfortable with it we can help you out. Also, with your permission, we could tweak it after your done.

Let us know what you think. Sounds like your idea with the Bonneville mufflers are a hit !!

I love the look; much better than the Harley mufflers. Nevertheless, I just can't live without my centerstand . . . did you ever find out for sure if they're mutually exclusive?

I really like your mufflers as well. I have some after market Harley mufflers that were given to me os I want to try and use them, however, the adapter is hard to find. Can you tell where to find the adapter from the header to muffler? I was thinking that I would need to fabricate something.

Hey, where'd all the pictures go? Any chance they can be restored? Just got a pair of cherry Bonneville take-offs on ebay.

Pics are from dbritt. Last time he was here was in 2007. So they may very well be lost in the internet.

Just wondering if anybody else besides "dbritt" ever put Bonneville Mufflers on a GL1000? If so pictures would be most appreciated. I just started to attempt it and pictures would be nice. There is quite a difference in the outlet of the exhaust pipe and the connection on to the Bonneville Mufflers. Also dbritt said he used 78 or 79 header pipes because they were slightly turned up. Is there that much difference between the 75-77 headers and the 78 and 79 headers?

I can not help with the Bonnie mufflers but yes 78/79 headers are a fair amount different than the early ones. The "Take Off" Angle is different and the construction and material are different. The early ones are painted steel and a more tubular type design, the later ones are plated (nickel maybe?). The will both bolt up to any 1000 engine but the muffler hook ups are a different angle so for stock systems they are not interchangeable.

Interesting Whiskerfish. So do you think they (78-79) are worth the investment in order to hook up some Bonneville Mufflers? Wow this is turning into a money pit.

That is really hard to say. Just go to Ebay and do a search on GL1000 headers and you can see multiple pictures of the differences.

If you have a mig welder, it's not hard to adapt the '75 exhaust to the Bonnevilles. Just massage a couple of mandrel bends to match the muffler input angle. If you're counting on off-the-shelf fittings then things get more difficult.

Where are the pictures? Any chance of restoring them?
I'll be doing a Bonneville muffler install real soon. I think my approach might be a bit different in that I'll be using a welder. Would it be worth posting that effort here?

No unfortunately they are gone. He had them on imageshack and that account is gone and he has not been here in years.
