Just one thing: how do I get rid of the vision of the front wheel studs coming loose, the wheel going flying, and the fork digging into the highway, launching me into a thousand foot arc?
Dutch
When you figure that out let me know, I think every time I change a front wheel I must check torque on those nuts a dozen times

For piece of mind on the Front wheel Studs you can Drill a 3/32 hole thru the nut and stds then using ss tie wire , you can safety wire them and worry no more.. do the same to any other bolts you feel that way about..
with regard to article on lubricating rear drive splines, when you grease the rear end, using the zerk fitting on the outside of the housing, is this where that grease ends up?
I'd like to add my "thanks". I am getting ready to have the rims of my '82 interstate project powder coated and was having a helluva time getting the flange out. good to know a little convincing is all that's needed. Any thoughts on the powder coating?
Seems like a lot of people have been using Moly 60 (including me) for years and years, but I know that doesn't make it right!
I've searched the threads for some later (than '09) information on using the Guard Dog Moly 30, but no joy.
I just spent about half a day getting the old tenacious grease/glue(!) off the drive splines and hub and other places. Whoever last lubed these babies was a believer in the "more is better" school of grease application. (1980 GL1100 Std)
SO WHAT'S THE LATEST ON THE MOLY 60 and the Valkerie splines?????
I've got about a week or two before re-assembly, so HELP! I need advice from the Grease Monkeys out there.
I'm brand-new to the site, so may not be posting this in the right place.

I do not know about the Valks but the Shop Manual for the 1000 does not specify the molybdenum disulfide content requirement. It says NLG1 #2 with MoS2 additive but does not give a concentration of the additive. Naturally with cyclic loads on that shaft and the buffereing properties of MolyB I would think the higher concentration the better?

Over on the Valkyrie site (VRCC) most people seem to be using Bel-Ray Waterproof Grease with great results over ten's of thousands of miles. Guard Dog 525 has has good results as well and that is what I went with on the last spline lube.
The Honda 60 doesn't get very high marks but seems to be acceptable for 8k-10k mile service.

not the 570?
My dad always says "if a little is good,

A little more would be "
If Honda first recommended the 45% moly and then upgraded to 60%, then why not apply the Gaurd Dog 570 that contains 73% moly?
The above recommendation is to use Guard Dog 525 that only contains 30% moly.
