New Handlebars Hitting Your Shelter? Install Steering Stops

#1

Post by sunnbobb »

Many folks have installed clubman bars or the like, only to find that their bars hit the shelter. This is no fun, esp when it dings your paint job. Here is how to install an adjustable steering stop on a GL1100. I have used the same principle with GL1000's.

First, Drill holes in the frame stop. Turn your triple tree to one side or the other to give yourself clearance for the drill.

Second, set up a pair of screws along this line. In this example I am using a 8mm stainless hex head screw.

Third, install the screws in the manner shown. You can adjust the head of the screw in or out to suit your fancy. That's it.

As an alternative, you can apply the same idea by drilling and tapping the hole so the adjustment screw simply screws into the stop. I used the screw and nut system as forgot my tap and die set at my house!
I found the end of the internet
