How to replicate a simple emblem

Making A replica emblem

This is one of those tips that probably no else will need, but hey, if they do, here is how to do it.

Ingredients:

1. Emblem to be replicated
2. “Sculpty” modeling clay.

3. Silicon shoe spray (used for mold release)
4. Polyester casting resin and catalyst

Go for it

Take a handful of Sculpty and roll it around in your hands until it is soft and pliable.

Roll the Sculpty onto a flat surface, and flatten it with something like a plate.

Spray your original emblem with silicon spray and press it into the Sculpty using the flat plate again. Remove the emblem from the sculpty and place it in a preheated 200 degree oven for 15 minutes.

Remove the Sculty (now hard) and allow it to cool.

You now have a mold to use for casting. Spray the mold with the silicon and allow it to dry overnight. Spray it again and allow it to dry. Spray the silicon one last time.

Mix your resin ½ once of resin to 11 drops of catalyst.

Pour the resin into the mold, using a flat object to level and clean the excess off of the surface. I used a match book cover.

Allow the resin to harden (typically about 2 hours), and remove the cast using an exacto knife.

Allow the resin to set up for a couple of hours, paint it any color you want and apply!

I found the end of the internet

Wow that is such a great idea. I have a problem with the all the badges on the bike as someone already said how to replicate the Gold. What I have noticed is that the emblems are first painted or cast in black glossy finish, Honda then have it gold plated with some sort of paint. Same with the red parts on the emblems. Now it can be done. I bought a set of HONDA tank name plates from a place in Australia, so I know that it can be done, I have had a bit of a think about this so my idea is to remove the gold paint by vapour blasting which should be very gentle and not damage the badge.

Then using a quality black two pack paint respray the whole thing black. When dry to get the gold effect why not use gold flake. It isn't a huge cost. and when attached to the raised letter wings whatever would be very smooth. The just coat in a two K hard varnish 2 or three coats should be enough to protect the gold and the black.

For inside the raised letter and wing details you could use a red enamel paint that has a good holding properties and do the same finish with 2x top coat.

I've never done it. But I know the process. It looks fairly easy.
