Re: Bad u joint on my GL1000
I pressed one cup inward forcing the cup on the opposite side to come out as far as possible before the two halves of the yokes came together. I then pressed from the other side using a pitman arm remover to straddle the other side of the yoke and pressed the opposite cup out as far as possible. That allowed me to remove the cross from the center. I then repeated the process with the other yoke.
I can probably get a pic or two to help explain.

Re: Bad u joint on my GL1000
No I did nothing to the factory stakes. The old cups pretty much smoothed them out on their way out. I thought about smoothing them out some more before installing the new ones but I figured the extra interference would help hold the new ones in
Here’s a couple of pics of what I used to press the old ones out.

Re: Bad u joint on my GL1000
Rebuilt one of my driveshafts this morning. The joint is perfect. I sealed the connections in epoxy, and it looks like it will work very well. I need to order a few more to do the rest of my spare shafts. I have to figure out a way to test them to insure they will work. Might try a driveshaft shop to see how they spin.
