A thought I just had. It does look like some of the paint, assuming that's what it is has come off. Should I be concerned about that?

Hello brute squad, i ordered a complete set just for waterpump, including
Water pump, all honda gaskets and orings and pump from Hondatown42 off ebay
Out of Minnesota I think, for approx $179.00 inc shipping no tax.
Only problem was he uses slowest postage. Says it takes 2 weeks and he means it.
But very happy with all parts.
I've seen honda pumps for 118 and off brand gaskets for as low as 29 but I
Was told use honda?

OK, so I'm getting a waterpump. Are the K&L gasket kits I see everywhere ok? I can piecemeal it from honda but it's a bit more expensive and I'm not 100% sure I'll have everything. I'd hate to pay 13 bucks for a 99 cent o-ring I forgot to order. Is there a required parts list anywhere? I looked but haven't found anything yet.

I like to go to BikeBandit online and look at their exploded views of the parts to see what I may need before I order stuff...

I know somone will chime in but I have used the KP sets you see for $20 on ebay on two of my bikes and have had no issues with them.

Thanks! Ordered one. Cheapest was $25 shipped.

I also have a good number of parts headed my way from Rogue1000 (CroWing) and a few other places. Hopefully I will make some good headway into this beast. All I think about all day is getting to work on it.

If you don't have them you might want to get a set of JIS (Japanese Industry Standard) philips head screwdrivers. A regular philips head screwdriver will tear up the screws on your front cover. Before I found out the difference in screwdrivers I ended up drilling out all the screws to get them out. that is a pain! :x

Good advice. I did get a set of those. I read a lot about stripped screws. Crossing my fingers that I don't have to go the drilling out route.

Well if you do use left hand bits so your unscrewing them when you drill.

sounds like the PO was not the sharpest pencil in the box. i don't think the stuff on the flywheel is a problem, if it hasn't yet. but getting it off is a good idea if it can be done safely . even if some of it falles into the engine sump, it will never get thru the screen filter

I agree with Cyborg; just run oil through with the kick starter and change before you start it. Cleaning the screen out before hand is a good idea also, even though it is a pain to do....

Aircraft paint stripper got it off. Very slowly. Dab a little on, wait a few minutes, wipe a little paint off. Repeat. As much effort as it took to get it off I probably would have been okay leaving it, but it bothered me. Cleaned it up with a little acetone once all the paint was gone. We're good.

During the waiting period, I was messing with the wiring a little bit. I disconnected the vetter harness which was spliced in with those blue splice connectors. Blah. They even used one of those type connectors to connect two wire ends. shakehands I'm getting a lot of use out of that smiley. I'm going to have to do some major overhaul on the wiring I think. Then I'll know it is done properly. There are just some crazy things. He extended a wire by adding in a 4 inch patch of wire in the middle. I found some wires that weren't connected anywhere. Just dangling. shakehands

So has anyone removed their RLU? I've found some threads about bypassing it, but has anyone actually taken the whole thing out? I won't be happy knowing it's there and not doing anything. Also, anyone know a good site to get replacement color wire?

bypassing the RLU does remove it, albeit not terribly elegantly as the plug is still there.

OK. I understand a little better now what it does after reading randakks post (see no. 5). It's pretty cool I guess and I'll leave it for now assuming it's not malfunctioning. I'm pretty sure it will go eventually, but for now it lives. It depends on how far from stock I get thus ruining all value anyway.
