CROSS OVER PARTS LIST

#1

Post by BIG T »

this sticky is to list tried and true cross over parts. like parts from other Hondas and other sources that will cross over to our gl bikes. even if it is a year crossover, you can list it here. I know that Frenchy and Randak probably have a partial list they themselves use. lets build this one....T :?: :?: :?: :?: :?:

I don't know if this belongs here, but this is what happened a few weeks ago. I wanted to change the bearings in the steering-head of my wing before going on a 5000 km roundtrip to France...but the bearings the Honda Shop sold me as the right one for my 1976 would not fit, they were way too big. After measuring the old bearing, I noticed that it has the same size as the steering-head-bearings of my 1978 CX 500's. I have no idea if that is unusual or not, but they did fit and I used a set of CX bearings that I had laying around. They are the tapered type.

Peewee

Here's what you do to find CROSS OVER PARTS.
(From one Honda to another, that is)

Go to CMS

...Click 'Honda Motorcycle Parts'

...in the 'Search Model' field; tap in your model..lets say: 'GL1000'

new page comes up;

...then, let's say GL1000 GOLD WING 1977 US
Click the underscored: parts-list

Now look for the appropriate sub-parts-list:

...let's say: 'FUEL PUMP / THERMOSTAT / POINTS'

Then the part you're looking for:
let's say #23 'SENDING UNIT' (that's the thermo switch)
and click the underscored line: 'SENDING UNIT'

a new page appears and it'll inform you that the part
is "Suited for models": and there's a list of all the Honda models
that use the same part.

In this case:
Image

OK; it's a bit complicated but
this info can be quite useful, especially if you're looking
for second hand parts, like from a breaker.

It seems that the rear light fixture in our wings is the same on virtually every Honda model from 1970 through 1978!  ;)
