My '82 CBX (white) has a vacuum valve that always makes it hard to start when left standing for a bit. The Z1300 electric one is a better idea I reckon

I actually modified my Valk's petcock to be a full manual for that very reason. Mine will sit for a fair amount of time, as it is kept at a vacation home. With the modification, I can turn the key on, be sure the petcock is open, and wait a few seconds for the bowls to fill. Should hopefully start up easier after a long sleep.

Nearly all of the vacuum operated petcocks I've seen had a prime position on them for this purpose. Those didn't?

No, they do not. That was a great feature, but these do not have that. This one has (stock) on/off/reserve.

my cx500 did not have a prime position either, which was frustrating when it sat, as you had to crank it to get the bowels to fill

I have used vacuum petcocks with no problems. Actually one less thing to try an d remember. But not in situations where a bike sat for long periods of time. I can see the advantage of an electric one

An electric pump side steps this issue from what I can tell. I cannot get gas to drain from the downhill side of the pump if the ignition is off.
I found the end of the internet

It's too early to tell if my KZ1300s electric fuel valve is a good idea or not, but I can see the merit in it. It has a manual petcock as well, but it has the tendency to weld itself in one position after a relatively short ride. Being less than 5 inches from the (extremely hot) engine block probably doesn't help any.

It usually loosens up after it cools down a bit, but until then you have an open petcock.

Mine does that too Lucien, jams up. Cannot change it without pilliers. The electric one is brilliant but pull it apart and clean it and if necessary change the rubber seal or sand it smooth or turn it over (which is what I did). Works brilliantly. 34 years old now and all original.
