Re: Customising my first Goldwing
So I finally got the rear boxes off, no point keeping them if one side has a missing lid :-(
and I fitted some small indicators to match the front, they are hard to see in the pic.
Can I get your thoughts on keeping/discarding the front scoop/plough?

Re: Customising my first Goldwing
Andy,
To me it seems like it's having a battle of looks with the long front mudguard (fender). And if it were mine, I would either chop the mudguard right down and keep the snow plough, or lose the plough and keep the 'guard as is.
Only my 2 pence worth, I've just posted a recent pic of my build with a severely chopped down standard Interstate front fender over on Fat Turtle...
If your box lid event had happened some weeks ago I coulda sent you a lid! Looks better without though, and I love those mirrors
cheers
Dean

The mudguard will either be chopped or replaced. Fish has a nice one on warbird and I like what you did on fat turtle.230Rocket wrote:Andy,

Re: Customising my first Goldwing
Took the foam off the seat base, gonna use this base for the new seat as it makes life easy.
Style of seat Im going for is a bit brat, bit cafe, slimmed down but still long enough to seat two.
So, any ideas on where to cut the back off?

Re: Customising my first Goldwing
I did exactly the same! Page 2 of the fat t build thread has some pic's of both the seat pan chop and the foam.
Sharpie. Keyhole saw. I've yet to get mine recovered coz I need to find a decent saddle upholsterer here in Dallas but I have very definite ideas on how I'm going with it. Also you may need to rethink the fixing method once you cut it down.
On reflection I would use an electric breadknife for the foam trimming if there's one in the kitchen and I've learned a little more about foam and upholstery along the way but maybe not enough to do my own!
cheers

Re: Customising my first Goldwing
So with careful measuring and a deep breath I cut the seat base down.
Also, as I removed the rear foot boards I picked up these footpegs off ebay for £9.99, not fantastic but they will be ok for the short journey any pillion does with me
Oh, and I went to cut this part of the exhaust off but I think I had the wrong saw

Not sure what direction you want to take the bike, but I've cut up or restyled quite a few,as I'm a custom painter.I'm restyling a gl1000 right now. I'm more than willing to help if I can.

Re: Customising my first Goldwing
Thanks man, there is no style or real plan being followed, just kinda slimming it down, a bit bobber, a bit brat.digschopper wrote:Not sure what direction you want to take the bike, but I've cut up or restyled quite a few,as I'm a custom painter.I'm restyling a gl1000 right now. Gonna have the bodywork wrapped and maybe the wheels powder coated and I'd like to fit a couple of rorty cans either side.

Re: Customising my first Goldwing
Need a bit of insight with the seat, not sure wether the trims the sides of the seat base off to narrow the overall look?

Re: Customising my first Goldwing
That's up to you since you know the exact look you want. But remember, as you pull the cover tight it will pull the sides in some.

Re: Customising my first Goldwing
Seat work is looking good.
Just remember, its easier to tske of than put back on.
Think and measure and sit on it before you cut anymore.
Looking forward to seeing the finished product.
