Re: Customising my first Goldwing
You can check out my thread and take a look at what I've done to my seat for some ideas, scroll to the bottom. http://www.ngwclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=57962 I started using a belt sander with coarse grit to get it where it is now, it does get thin real quick on the sides so go easy. Still have to get it covered but haven't had much time lately to work on the bike, will get to it eventually.

Re: Customising my first Goldwing
Fitted my new cam belts this weekend, slightly scary but it all turned out good and the engine runs smoothly.
Seat is on hold while I decide on wether to trim the plastic sides down to get a narrower seat.

Re: Customising my first Goldwing
Got a Triumph seat off ebay for the princely sum of £1.20 ($1.74) +£8 ($11) postage so even if I get it completely wrong it will not matter much.
Question is...where do I cut the front to make it fit?

Good price on the seat! If I remember correctly, Octane showed the cuts he made when he was building the Bulldog. Have to look into that myself, as I have one to hack up too!

Re: Customising my first Goldwing
My seat is coming along nicely, took it to a local car seat company. Oxted Trimming Co. in Oxted, Surrey. UK. They make all the seats for the Caterham range of cars in the UK so they know what they are doing.
So, this is the final shape and it will get covered this week in a nice vintage style distressed brown vinyl with diamond stitching.
You can also see in the fist two pics that I bobbed the rear mudguard
Hope ya like it

Looks awesome.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

Re: Customising my first Goldwing
Andy,
Looks like your seat came out really good, I screwed up a little by cutting too much off the baseplate at the front where it needs to meet the tank and subsequently I then took too much foam out. Luckily these seats aren't rare so I have another to play with. Do you have any additional pictures of the foam or baseplate cutting you did? I'd like to follow similar lines of yours.
Great job on the whole bike, it's good to see the vision coming together.
cheers
Dean

Re: Customising my first Goldwing
I didn't take any pics after but I made these cuts, about 5mm off the bottom edge and the other two cuts to shape it
And rounded off the back edge a bit more.
When I get the seat back Ill take a few pics for you.
