GL 1200 cafe (Te Racer) projekt.

#1

Post by Buli »

Hello all. This is my Te Racer projekt. I call it Te Racer beqause it is not Cafe. It is too big and too wild ( i hope). I bought this bike one year a go and ride it last summer. It was nice to ride but i wanted to have little more character of my bike. So i decided to strip it down and make it like i wanted it to be. I took some some pictures of it and made in photoshop a draft picture how it should look like. So here are picks how it looks before, and photoshopped model photo and how it look now.

I like the direction very much. That false tank reminds me of something, but I can't put my finger on it. (Might be Lucien's KZ1300 !)

Great project. I had an '84 Aspencade, but it still had "everything" hanging off it. Nice travelling companion, though.

Going to fit and install original tank hatch lock to new tank hatch. I also put thin rope on hatch to prevent it dripping. Then finishing rear fender and seat pan. I hope i can brin seat pan to upholsterer next week. Dependin on the weather i hope i can do paintin in next two weeks. I must do it outdoors in a tent. Some more pics

Yup. That tank in the photoshop is one off a Z1300, specifically the large capacity early Euro version. But who's counting? ;)

I like it. The 1200 is notoriously difficult to "nakedize", so props to you.

Yes tank is from z1300. I dont know which modell or year. Yes it was difficult to nakedize, and it still is. I am not totally happy whit it yet but i will be. Hope :) . Rear fender gave me headache. I did used the original fender which i shaped and it fits pretty good. First i did try to redesign original tank but it did not work so i started to look really big tank from same age bikes. Z1300 tank was only big enough I found. I did chek dimensions from internet and i decided to try fit it in to the bike. Tank is about 5 cm shorter than gl tank but otherwise it is right size. I did put ad in kawasaki z1300 pages "z1300 tank wanted in gl 1200 project" so i found me tank. I used tank as a molud and then return it to the owner.

Today i did paint first primer coat. I did chop rearfender litlebit more. This z1300 tank fits amazingli well in bike. Next week project is to fit new steerinbar and bring seat to upholstery. I was thinkin to paint it metallic silver like in photoshop pic, but this black is pretty nice looking color. In otherhand it is possible to keep primer this summer and finishing bike next winter.

Awesome, I have never "talked" with anyone from there before. I teach geography to 6th graders, so we will discuss Finland this week. anim-cheers1

That false tank is a great shape for your bike. Some new handle bars will really start pulling the look together, great job so far.
