Final Drive grease issue....

#1

Post by YankeeRon »

While I have the engine out I thought I'd take a look at the final drive I had greased last year. Below is what I found when I pulled it. I had greased it with Honda Moly paste and buttoned it all back up, but it looks like most of it came back out. Is this normal? The o-ring seems to be in good condition, so I'm not really sure why this happened. Thankfully I had only put a few hundred miles on it, so no damage to the splines, but I certainly want to seal that up if I can. Any suggestions ?

Thanks,
Ron

Maybe too much grease ? Moly is suppossed to stay put but it looks like it was squeezed out ?

Looks like too much grease. If I remember the book right, it just called for a thin application to the splines. I do mine when I change the rear tire and have not found a problem.

Now the world is Weird and people take Prozac to make it normal.

Thanks Rat and Pondman - I think I did put in a lot, so maybe I'll just go lighter next time.
