Re: Brake Caliper Piston Removal Made Simple
So I'm very new to this, I've watched this video several times and I get the idea, but I'm trying to figure how to get to the bleeding aspect of things from a stock standpoint. I figure Caliper off, brake pads out, but then what? Does it bleed automatically? Should something specific be removed to allow the flow of brake fluid? What? I need to get into my right caliper but plan on going through the whole braking system for a thorough cleaning and inspection. Where should I start? I've watched all your YouTube videos (I'm a fan) but still not sure where to start. Thanks in advanced.

Re: Brake Caliper Piston Removal Made Simple
For the most part you need the system complete and installed. Otherwise the pistons would just be pushed out of the calipers

Re: Brake Caliper Piston Removal Made Simple
This video is great - very helpful. Is there any reason why one couldn't just pull the calipers off the rotors and leave them connected to the master cylinder to complete this function? I could imagine that the mess of brake fluid so close to the bike would be an issue, but otherwise it seems possible. Also, do you have any tricks for getting new Pistons into the calipers after rebuild? Thanks!

Re: Brake Caliper Piston Removal Made Simple
If you get all the scale out of the seal grooves (I use a brass wire brush wheel on a dremel), the piston should go in with hand pressure. Lube the seal with some clean brake fluid first.
If you have to force it with a press or clamp, something isn't right.

Re: Brake Caliper Piston Removal Made Simple
Tom, like I mentioned before there's a cool setup, here's what happened to me, I pop that caliper off and commence the pumping the Piston out this using my brake on the bike it came right out of course you got to separate the caliper to get it all the way out so I'll go over to the other side and I'm like oh hahaha, Hydraulics are open now so I got a Bolt & Nut exact size use the washers put them in that banjo fitting start pumping, well no pressure well that means I had to go back over and bleed it out! pump the other piston out Wawa awesome, they weren't that bad of shape I just polished everything all up, cleaned out those grooves where the seal set everything was just corroded and dirty, even use the same seals, they still had elasticity and I just use some Scotch-Brite and it worked really well I was amazed, feels real good resemble bam I got brakes! bike even runs oh, now I get to do the rear, good stuff life is good, be safe out there in that crazy world right now
