1200 Standard hondaline hard bag kit (samsonite)

Post by motobuffy »

Its been a long time since I have posted. I guess that in itself is a great indorsement for the dependability of my 1200 Std. I recently found a running 1200 Std that I picked up on the cheap and will "de weather" this winter. It came with a great condition set of 3 Hondaline bags complete with all the brackets, backrest, key, etc. Is it unique to the 1200 or will it also fit 1100 or 1000s? I'm looking to unload it but haven't a clue what the value would be. Hoping someone on the forum will chime in and give me an idea what it is worth. Also, the new to me bike has a small shroud over the instrument cluster. Is it an original factory part that happened to be missing on my original 1200 or an aftermarket item? These are the only 2 "complete" 1200 standards I've ever seen, so my first hand knowledge is very limited. Thanks in advance for the input.

I can't speak for the bags, but the shroud on the gauges is definitely an optional extra. I think it was meant for the 1100 line, but the 1200 Standard gauges being what they are, the shroud will bolt up just fine. I've got one on my 1200 because I think they look neat.

The Hondaline bags first came out in 1979 with mount brackets unique to each series model.

As to the value of your luggage set ? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-Goldwing- ... SwTZ1XmR8O

The gauge shroud is off the 1100 series like I have on my S.

I've had them on my 78 since new so they came out earlier than 79.

The asking price on EBay is crazy, I've seen the whole setup go for less than $200 on several occasions.

I would think so. If that was accurate, its almost like getting paid to take a 1200 std.

The Gauge shroud was used to eliminate glare on the inside of the Hondaline Fairing windshield

Not long ago I purchased (and have since sold) a nice 1200 Standard with the Samsonite bags (which I still have) but apparently the mounting hardware was intended for the 1100 since short homemade adapters were used to lengthen the mounting tabs (under the shocks if I recall properly). I am thinking of installing them on an 1100 that I plan to restore in the near future.

I too have seen them on Craigs list for around $200.

And a slightly worse for the wear BMW GS adventure bike awaiting repair
