According to NHTSA, motorcycle riders are 35 times more likely than people in a car to be in a fatal accident.

Big deal. Better than dying of an aortic aneurysm.

Enjoy the ride. Hang the risk. If you're worried about it, you're impacting the enjoyment.

I read that more likely to die if in an accident. And.. but, ...."more people die in cars, then on motorcycles". Simple because there are MORE cars on the road, then motorcycles. And there are often more people in a car then on a motorcycle, some fatalities are higher in any single accident. :-? :-? :-?

This is something that we all chose when we take on "our" sport. Risk is part of it and must be understood and managed as best it can.

I do agree Desert, can't let it rule you ride.

All the more reason to do everything you can to manage any and all risks possible. head on a swivel. Cool head and observant, Helmet and riding gear, good maintenance and tires. Assume every one else is out to kill you and ride accordingly. It is a great hobby but requires additional care and caution. I have totaled two bikes over the years and respect how fast it happens. I still ride as much as possible.

Definitely a chilling statistic.
But statistics are for groups.
I will endeavor to remain somewhat individualistic and have at least 35% more fun than the guy too scared to ride.

Just don’t ride on weekends at 6pm. I read that’s when more riders meet their maker.

Most riders meet their maker because they are not paying attention to their surroundings, have faulty equipment, or are riding over their ability, or drunk. Those are the facts. It is a learned skill, that must be practiced. I have been doing it for over 50 years. And at times the learning curve has been pretty steep. Numbers can be made to say anything. It takes a special kind of person to be aware of the dangers of life. Be it bikes, planes, or cars. Even sitting in your easy chair, in your own house, can be risky business. Those who know me, know motorcycles are more important to me then life or death. And I will not be limited by numbers, day of the week, or time of that day. And when and where I go,...I will be able to say I did it my way. No point in worrying about such things.....NO ONE is getting out alive,....enjoy the journey
