Oily toe of right boot

#1

Post by Edmaddox »

Hey guys hope every one is good. Yes it’s been awhile. So took gl1100i (yes it’s still a dresser) down to replace both tires. Rebuilt a couple of brake calipers that were giving trouble, and a blown fork seal. Every time I ride I get oil on the tip of my right boot. I thought the fuel pump was leaking where it bolts up, so I got some cork, but now that I’ve taken it off I think it’s coming out of the hole where the tach cable goes in. Any body seen this.
Thanks Ed

Tach seal is a very common leak. Replacement is cheap and easy. Get from Honda for a few bucks and use a pick to pull out the old one and then put the new one in. 10 minute job. Just use caution when tightening the bolt that holds the cable in. It strips easily.

Last week I changed the tachometer cable, I should have read this before. I attest that it really breaks easily. I was lucky and I was able to remove it by hand, the thread didn't break flush with the cylinder head.

better a broken bolt than a stripped thread.... what really sucks is the bolt breaking when you try to take it out.... IMHO, but I have never seen an easy out that worked

somebody correct me, been a while since I dug into the GL electrics but most automotive gauges for voltage run on 12VDC, these are on 7VDC. I forget why.

the gas gauge and temp gauge run off 7 volts. the step down is so the variations in voltage from idle to speed do not effect the readings. The voltage meter simply reads the voltage

I bought a little digital volt meter that I velcroed to the handle bars in between the clamps.
Works well.
