Lol - Pile on!
Bike is here and it arrived with nothing missing or damaged.
This thing is a hoot! The three wings here all look like Sherman Tanks next to this thing! (Gl1000/Gl1100/Gl1200)
Quick stats:
36" - Handle Bar Height
25" - Seat Height
95" - Total Length (Front Tire Tip to Farthest Rear Tire Tip)
Correctly advertised as a project, it will need pretty much everything. It came with a pallet full of parts. The bike has no wiring on it, or lights, or brakes, or bearings (stem or swingarm). The factory carbs are there but will need investigating.
The aluminum work is quite nicely done (rear fender, seat, headlight piece, and tank.) Tank consists of an upper and lower half that needs assembling and finishing.
The framework is nice and very solid.
Entry from the rear - I can easily walk/straddle the seat and tank and with a leg-up and over, I'm right past those handlebars!
It's hot - pics by this weekend.
It's a lovely 18 degrees above zero here in Northern NY!

Re: Who built this one? GL custom in Oklahoma
I'm glad that my post enabled a wild GW build to find a new home in NY!
Good luck with the build and, just like the others said, I'm looking forward to seeing the finished bike.

I'm subscribed here, too! In fact, I hope you have a nice, heated work area so we don't have to wait until spring for the project to begin!
Good luck with it!

Re: Who built this one? GL custom in Oklahoma
Thanks! And yes this thread did play a big part with the purchase of the bike. I actually saw it on eBay first and kicked the can around until the ad disappeared. I thought maybe it sold locally and was surprised to see your posting listing it on Craigslist. About halfway through the thread, the eBay ad was up again. Not Done Yet wrote:I'm glad that my post enabled a wild GW build to find a new home in NY!

The views from this ngwclub post was the driving force to "Buy It Now" since with that exposure it was just a matter of time before someone took the leap. Via eBay I had already contacted the seller to ask how many days the bike could remain where it was since shipping anything up here is always a challenge.
-
This Goldwing's adventure is already off to a good start and because I too enjoy a good build thread, this one should be, at the very least, "entertaining"!
-
In the event a donor bike is needed so this latest one can live, there is a complete 1981 Interstate here that has served as a test-bed for a few carb conversions and thus escaped being transplanted into a Trimagnum. The Goldwing from Oklahoma is mostly a 1983 GL1100 so the '81 would be a great parts bike.

Re: Who built this one? GL custom in Oklahoma
IMHO neither of those bikes qualify as parts bikes, but hard to tell from pics. Hopefully they both can live a long and dignified life. I am sure many of us here would want either one in our shed. That being said I am really looking forward to your story on this build. And I know from your cafe build pics that you will do it justice either way.

Re: Who built this one? GL custom in Oklahoma
A 40 degree heatwave moved in for a few hours today so it looked like a good time to do something to this Goldwing.
First on the itinerary are the timing belts.
After removing the radiator and timing belt covers, it was nice to see a decent looking set of belts. They are no-name, still soft, and appear to be in excellent shape showing little (if any) use. With a long winter ahead, they'll do for now and be replaced when the bike is ready for the road.
-
-
-
Although the belts look ok, victory was brief and the crowd went silent.
When attempting to verify the actual timing marks there was a little snafu....
