Re: Behemoth gl1200 custom.....
Haven't been able to get on it like I hoped. I finally got my brothers bobber off my lift and rolled the Behemoth up there. I decided to strip the bike down further. I pulled the harness and all the electrical components. I also got the Carbs pulled. I pulled one of the bowls to see how they looked inside. Not too bad, I may be able to get away with a thorough cleaning and replace the needles and bowl gaskets.
I'm hoping soon to be able to order the materials to make the new triple trees, so that I can properly fit the ZX7r front forks. As well as getting the bearings and material to fit the wing front wheel to the zx7r forks and zx7r rotors to the wing wheel.
In the meantime I will probably spend time simplifying the harness and getting the frame modifications sorted out.

Re: Behemoth gl1200 custom.....
Made some more progress on the disassembly today. I took out the access panel on my welder when the chassis decided to fall off my lift, awesome way to start my morning. But it's down to the frame now. Found some rot through in the removable frame section, so I'll be hunting down one of those(anyone holding?). Also some starting on the other side so I'm in for some patch work.Track T 2411 wrote:Progress is progress!
I love how big this engine looks out of the frame.
I'm going to work on getting my sand blaster plumbed up and build a small temporary paint booth.

Re: Behemoth gl1200 custom.....
Over the weekend I finally got the chance to work on the Behemoth again. I got the Gl1000 shelter I wanted as well, thanks to another forum member. Did some modifications to the frame, although I didn't get to finish up, but I'll show y'all what I did get done. Scored an old pipe bender from my neighbor, but I need to find the right mandrels so I can finish the frame work.

Re: Behemoth gl1200 custom.....
Little by little, that's how the Behemoth grows. Last couple of days I've been getting some time in the shop to tinker on the project. I decided to cut off the rear frame horns completely and remake them. Had to put that on hold because my pipe bender blew the seals in the ram, Its old as dirt. So I cut out and patched the rusted section on the lower right frame rail. At first it only looked like it had a few pin holes in it that I could just fill with weld. WRONG! As soon as the mig hit, it blew through. I took my slag hammer and tapped along the frame rail and it was poking holes through the tube easily. I ended up replacing a 4 1/2 inch by 3/4 inch section along the bottom. I cut out a piece from a section I chopped off the subframe and made a patch with it, so Its still the same thickness. The frame rot doesn't surprise me. The bike sat for months at a time under a flimsy bike cover outside my sisters house. It also was up to the cam covers in flood waters from Hurricane Harvey for a week or so. Surprisingly it never got into the engine (thankfully).

Re: Behemoth gl1200 custom.....
Last night I started on the tail piece. The Suzuki gs850g tank that I had originally intended to turn into a faux tank, got volunteered for material. The body lines are similar to the GL1000 shelter so its seemed like a great start. I chopped off the front portion, then sectioned what was left of the rear down to the width I wanted. Got it tacked together and started stitch welding it up. Had to call it quits because it got late and 4:45am comes early. I still have more trimming and forming to do, but its heading in the direction I want. And yes, I know I'm really good at making a complete mess of my shop space,

Re: Behemoth gl1200 custom.....
Over the past week and a half I managed to make a few more changes I wanted to the behemoth. One decision I made was to go mono-shock. This lead to the need to figure out what to do about a fuel cell. I chopped away the subframe completely. Which led into another eye sore. The frame section behind the swingarm pivot. I decided to weld in a bent peice of tubing on each side to make it look smoother and more like an older frame. It was a pain, but it got the desired result.
Now with that done, it was on to the rear shock mounting. I decided against using all the linkage that accompanied the donor shock. Instead it got mounted directly to the swingarm via a mount I milled out and a welded in crossmember to the main frame.
As ar as the fuel cell goes I am toying with the idea of building a removable tail section that will double as the fuel cell.

Re: Behemoth gl1200 custom.....
I had to look at that twice, as well. If one compares the sides of the swing arm from the frame mounts, one can see that the driveshaft side is inset more, and the width of the tube also must be taken into account. To me that leaves the last little bit to camera angle pond optics, IMhO...dontwantapickle wrote:maybe an optical illusion, but it looks like your shock might be a bit offset.
