Not exactly the cleanest carbs I've seen... must be winter fuel.

Imagine trying to get these guys spotlessly clean while still in the carb body! In the '80-81's carbs, these jets are press - in. They can be removed using a screw and pliers, but Randakk's kit doesn't provide replacement o-rings, so either hope you can use them over or source new ones of unknown quality... on Grumpy I reused them with no problems (so far...).

That is too bad. A little JB weld or another metal repair compound may reattach that back on to the body. You do have the original set though if needed.
If you don’t use or have an Ultrasonic cleaner putting the carbs in an aluminum turkey pan on the stove or the BBQ with some “Awesome” brand cleaner is a good first step to start. You can thoughly clean the grime off the bodies (old toothbrush works well for the crevices) and the heat softens all the stuck jets and crud on the inside passages.
Current Bikes:

1966 CL77 - Honda 305cc - Dual purpose - "Gentleman's Scrambler" was a period moniker.
1967 CL175K0 - Low production number with #802 engine serial- winter 2019/2020 full restoration.
1972 CB350F - Baby Four with low mileage - Cosmetic refresh to the next level 2021/2022.
1978 CB550K - Very original bike with only 7499 Km. from new - light cleanup and refresh done.
1983 CB1100F - Canadian model - DOHC Supersport in pristine low kilometre condition from new.
1984 GL1200 - Standard model in showroom condition - two owner bike from new.
1984 CX650E - Restored summer 2017 - a rare Eurosport model - excellent one owner bike.

Yeah, I briefly thought about JB Weld, but... earlier I posted that I'm a hoarder. Some days that pays off! lolol I just happen to have another carb body to replace it, so it's all good. It's just frustrating when I screw up because I should know better!
Concerning the cleaning, good advice on the soaking and heat. SWMBO would not be happy with me, and this actually happened about a month ago, when we were still in the grips of Old Man Winter. My workspace is in the basement, and I have to be very careful about any kind of fumes. My carb cleaning (and most of my other messy/smelly work) is done using portable work stations and ad hoc flooring on my gravel driveway. Weather is a big factor in progress on my projects for that reason. I do try to plan the sequence of tasks so that I can always be working on something, but it can be unpredictable.

Wow, I don't think I've ever seen as much external corrosion as on that #1 slide cap. I look forward to seeing what the inside looks like. Keep the pics coming! And have fun!

Ok then it is the outdoor BBQ method, which is what I use first when I get some really nasty carbs. I know the Ultrasonic won't touch them without multiple cleanings if I try it as the first step.
I hear you on the winter issue and temperatures, as we are just getting a little more snow today and possibly more tomorrow. It has really hung on around here this year, although there is light at the end of the tunnel next week I believe.

I hear your pain about work spaces, mine is shared between the patio and the basement. Been in trouble more than once about fumes. I think I got lucky with the carbs on my current project, don't seem to be in bad shape. Got some parts in the mail today but the rain is still falling.

Yeah, it looks pretty bad. These carbs came off a bike with a sidecar that was used for winter commuting. I think the guy just bought cheap bikes, used them for a winter or two, then bought another.

Finally, after fighting a month's worth of family obligations and long hours at my job (not to mention a serious lack of motivation), progress! I pulled the calipers and both master cylinders between thunderstorms yesterday. While the front brakes were marginally operational, the pads were saturated with leaking fork oil. The rear brake was dragging significantly, so it was obviously time to go through them all. I must say that I was holding out hope that I could just disassemble them all and give them a good cleaning (which goes against my own oft-given advice of 'do it right, do it once'), but new kits will be going in everything. Here's a few pics for entertainment...

The calipers are actually in pretty good shape, overall. The front calipers even still had the anti - squeal plates!

Mmmmm, yummy!
All three of the calipers had a fair amount of gritty sediment trapped behind the pistons, as well as the typical crusty build-up around the piston seal. The bleeders all came out fairly easily. I haven't dug into the front master cylinder yet, but it looks to be in better shape than the rear, for sure!

I've been working on cleaning the crud from the calipers and masters. Looks like someone's been in there before; there's a few pretty good scratches in the seal grooves, and one good scratch down the cylinder of the front master. They all could definitely use a repaint, as well.
Today, I ordered all (hopefully) the assorted OEM seals, o-rings, and other bits I need to rebuild the rear shocks and front forks, as well as a few much - less - expensive eBay purchases. Next I've got to get the brake kits and pads ordered, but I'll probably wait a week or two, as I've got plenty of tasks to keep me busy.
