Re: How fast have you gone?
Broke 100 MPH on my 1980 Suzuki GS1000G back in the 80s when I was young! Just wanted to see what it felt like.
Was on a multi-lane highway in Minneapolis when we were living there in the 80s.
Have never broken 100 again on any bike I own, not even my Gold Wings. Just don't feel the need. Plus, I'm old now, I don't bend anymore, I break!!!

Re: How fast have you gone?
hello,
I'm drivinge bikes since 23 years. I had 3 accidents. The first one kills my BMW R100RS a good bike... and the other 2 with a Triumph Thruxton and a Yamaha FZR1000 Genesis. With the last one I had my speedrecord on normal roads at 166mph. It was a warm summer evening along the edge of a forest, my wife was sitting behind me. This was 10 years ago. I was so careless. Now my personal speedlimit on normal roads with my bike is 80 to 85 mph.
I thinks, thats enough.
greetings
Harald

Re: How fast have you gone?
135mph and climbing on my new 1984 V65 Sabre back in the day. I wanted to see how fast it would go, advertised at 175 and the fastest production bike when I bought it. Ran out of nerve before running out of throttle. Have kept the v65s in the stable all of these years, and still have two, in addition to my naked Wings.
The V65s give me the thrill of acceleration , but I prefer the Wings as my daily riders. Coming out on to the state highway from a local national park, I still go from 0 to 100 occasionally on the old Sabres.
Not too often, because I'm an old guy now, but still not enough sense to keep it below the speed limit on occasion.

Re: How fast have you gone?
I "did the ton" on my '77 Goldwing just to say I did it. It was thrilling and the bike seemed to enjoy it, but I never did it again. When I got the '91 I had to do the ton on it too. That was scary and I never did it again.
I low-sided on the '77 once because I locked up the rear brake to avoid broadsiding a car that "failed to yield". It hurt me more than the bike.

Re: How fast have you gone?
late one night going home (and fearing Jeanne's wrath) I took my 1984 Kawaski Voyager (full dress 6 cylinder fuel injected beast) up to 138. Verified by police radar. He said I was going uphill and still accelerating but he cut me a break! Still got in trouble with Jeanne and paid the worst ticket of my life. Good lawyering kept me from going to jail.

anything over 80 mph up here will get you fined for "stunting". Lose your license right there, vehicle is impounded and the fine is $2k.

Re: How fast have you gone?
That's only about 130 Km/h. If you do much less than that on the 401 anywhere near Toronto you are likely to be run over by a tractor trailer.
Here "stunting" is anything more than 50 Km/h over the limit but I know of a lot of 80 Km/h roads where you can see what is ahead of you for several Km and there is nowhere for a cop to hide so you can go pretty much as fast as you feel comfortable without being caught. Personally, I try to keep it around 95-100 most of the time and I haven't had a ticket in a long time.

Gents;
A calculated 178 at Charlotte MotorSoeedway. World gets pretty narrow at that speed. I was on my 1135CC Kawasaki superbike, and just as I was patting my self on the back, a friend of mine passed me on his TZ750 and up-shifted into sixth gear. He later told me he was geared for 202 and getting it.

Re: How fast have you gone?
We have reckless driving here too but it isn't the same as "stunting". Stunting covers anything that could be considered showing off. Unfortunately, a lot of what is covered makes sense only to the people that wrote the law.
As an example, you can be charged for stunting if you are observed not sitting on the seat of your motorcycle, even though we all know that on bumpy roads you have more control if you rise off the seat an inch or so.
I have to be very careful because it is pretty safe to stand on the pegs of a sidecar outfit at low speed and I used to regularly stand up while pulling out from where a parked car/truck would block my view if I was sitting until I could tell nothing was coming. This obviously makes pulling out safer but since they passed the "stunt driving" law I also have to make sure there isn't a cop in the area and if there is either wait for them to leave or take a chance on being hit because I couldn't see something coming.
