I understand your case could make you dislike the product. Truth is, there are better products on the market now then when I used it. However. I used it correctly, and have had no need to replace it. I have no doubt that acetone will effect it, But I tend to fill my tank with gasoline, ( acetone is not as effective as a burning agent in my engine). Would I use it again? no. Would I go to the trouble of replacing it? no. I used it back in 1980, and have almost 500K miles on that bike. I feel the product has performed very well, considering how long it has lasted.

Nice find, keep the stock paint as few still have that. Nice looking ride if you can get a stock seat.

Well guys it’s on the lift hoping to remove the tank this week. Depending on the heat that retains in my garage. I’ll set all the painted parts off to the side to avoid damage but yeah I won’t be repainting love how well this bike has survived over the years.

I screwed 2 doubled 2x4s side by side to a Harbor Freight funiture dolly and after removing the headers placed the rig between the frame rails. Then removed the seat, rear wheel, battery box and rear fenders. Then rear MC and brake lines (probably needs rebuilt/flushed anyway). I think that I removed or unbolted and raised the back of the shelter frame, too. This was what I remember allowed the tank to come out.

Using the dolly allowed strapping the engine to it and removing front wheel and forks/trees, the rear swing arm and drive then unbolting the frame from the engine. It was a lot easier to remove the frame and replace it on the engine than horsing the heavy engine around.

Do you need to remove the entire exhaust or just the mufflers, I have the Haynes manual and the Clymers manual for this bike. Both were included with the bike (makes me curious what issue it will have if both were bought for it) plus the right muffler is a bit blue so i'm worried a cylinder may be scorched. I've read that chrome polish can remove the blue from chrome has anyone tried this?

Finally received the title for this as well they first sent me a title for a CB160 sadly didn't want to give me the bike as well, mileage on title is 'Exempt' so who knows what kind of mileage this thing actually has. So far the 12k on the odometer seems believable after look at the condition of everything. I guess time will tell

As long as you are carefull with the studs (lots of PBBlaster soak) it is easier to pull headers than mufflers. You really need them off if pulling heads, pulling engine, etc. They wrap under the frame. Header to head gaskets are cheap and non-reusable. Make sure you get the old ones out. The Haynes and Clymer manuals are good for propping things up. Get the Honda manual. Diligent searching and you can find a pdf.

Got distracted with a C70 passport and installing heat in my garage but I finally pulled the tank and the carbs, man that was a task. Also found out I do have the Honda service manual for this and not the Hayes one. I’ll be working on getting the tank and carbs cleaned this week as well as the rear master cylinder while it’s off.

Good progress. Avoid removing the tank drain plug, or if you do be sure to seal it well. It can be a bugger to stop the gas smell in your garage as it evaporates and often does not drip from there.

Maybe it is just me but I would also grab a wire coat hanger lift and tie that drive shaft up to take pressure off the joint. maybe also pull shocks off. I replied to your thread on Goldwing docs this AM suggesting that you subscribe here but see that you are already in good hands!

I like to have my bases covered and thanks after I took this picture I supported it with a can. Saw the boot straining a bit

After a couple times, most of this just becomes a task to do that you don't mind. The only part I still dread is the brake work. I hate brakes.

This is the bike that will make you love brake work. They will work beautifully when you are done and that will give you the missing confidence.

Ha yeah brakes aren’t that bad I used to help rebuild them for an Indy lights team, plus just did them on the kz1000 I got. I pulled the timing belt covers, that was a task with the radiator in the way... but belts look brand new, I bet they were replaced when the old owner was trying to get this running so I’ll keep them on there till I hear it run then maybe I’ll swap them based on age. I will take this time to polish the covers while they’re off.

never rely on the look of belts. Even original ones can look brand new. Belts are cheap. rebuilding an engine is not
