So, has another six years changed your perspective?
This was an interesting read. I seem to have missed it previously.

I had cataract surgery performed on both eyes some years ago. Synthetic lens implants… and no more nearsightedness! But, one of the biggest surprises was a reduction in glare from lights at night. Makes nighttime driving a lot more comfortable.

John Force's former crew chief Austin coil told him every morning when you get up the old man tries to get in your body. Don't let him in, keep fighting him off. I just turned 67 and I get it.
The more time I spend in the shop, the better I feel. A couple years ago I had a hurt knee and spent a lot of time in the chair. My shop partner landed us a funny car chassis job and after a few weeks of rebuilding it I never felt better.

Re: getting older and motorcycling
This is the late Charlie Mahoney with his Indian 4 at his home in Campbellford Ontario.
When I met Charlie he was in his 80s and he had just come back from a trip to Laconia on it with a bunch of younger friends who were all on much newer Japanese bikes but neither he or the bike had any trouble keeping up with them. I had just put Mr.H together and we sat in the front of his shop with Mr.H parked just outside and his 4 inside and discussed how the 'Wing was a spiritual descendant of the Indian 4 and the connection was especially strong betweeh nis 4 and my 'Wing because both had been put together by their owners to be used as basic transportation with parts from 2 bikes so the engine was a different year from the frame.
I only met Charlie a couple of times but whenever I think about how old I am (67) and how long I've had Mr.H (22 years & counting) I think of how long he had the 4 and realize I'm still a young newbie compared to him so I guess the bike & I have a few more good years left

Re: getting older and motorcycling
getting older and motorcycling..Well it's finally that time. Going in tomorrow for hand surgery. Many years of wrenching, drumming and a misspent youth of installing hubcaps by hand (lol). I could almost tolerate slowing down on the day to day work load (that's why I'm married, right?), but it has cut into my enjoyment of the activity we all love. So I'm having carpal
tunnel and arthur-ritus treatment on both mitts tomorrow. Expecting great things because things have been difficult (read: painful) lately.

Re: getting older and motorcycling
Like Mickey Mantel said, if I had known I was going to live so long I'd have taken better care of myself. I also abused my hands, one of those guys that gave everything every day to be a success. I was a pretty good plumber, then pipefitter. I've had four trigger fingers repaired and need a left thumb joint. The work done has made my life in general much better, I hope yours goes as well.

Re: getting older and motorcycling
Good luck Ric! Knowing you the recovery down time will be the challenge, but you got to do what they say or you could end up worse off. I also have had the trigger finger thing a couple times and after repeated breaks one metacarpal need some internal adjusting.
