Not one of us, not one, has answered the question.
I feel bad I only have one.
didn't mention......
I have enough spare parts to build another one
Hi James!
One is not a bad number. It keeps life simple. The right answer is based on what you want to do. I like to build bikes, it is a hobby I've been doing for the last 10 years. I like to ride too, the 1200 Interstate is great for eating miles. I like to load the tent and leave for a week of eastern Oregon. The CB450 is a hoot to ride. It draws a crowd almost everywhere, but after about 200 miles in a day it really makes my old butt hurt. So the right answer is something in between. That is what the 1100 Standard is for. It will be naked as the day it came off the assembly line. There isn't much room between the 1100 and 1200 so I think there needs to be something between the 450 and 1100. So a 73-74 CB750 sounds about right. Those four bikes should give a good spread. This plan leaves my wondering if I need to come out of the 70-80s. Maybe a move to a VFR fuelie would be in order... hmm, just thinking.
Buddy Pony, I think you need to turn some of those parts into a bike. It will be a contribution to the collective. The only way to pass on the NGW to the next generation is to have bikes for them. Your 1000 is perfect. A rider is needed to round it out.
BTW- Your old engine justs needs to be clear coated before I slide the engine into the frame. The valve covers and cam belt covers came out beautiful. I just need a few days of warmer weather to get is coated. The build should be fast.

I agree N is a variable by definition and thus so is B.
Anyway I like his mathematical creativity.
Must be a physicist, they all do calcs on the the ideal.
To many is one more then you can maintain comfortably, have time to ride and enjoy, and can afford to store properly. In my case, that is one sport type, and one touring type. They do everything I want to do, and fit into the size of my budget, and the size of my shop, and ability to keep in shape.

It's like guns or guitars - if you are really going to enjoy every aspect of the activity then you need more than one. You at least need a rifle and a pistol or an electric and an acoustic, right? As much as the manufacturers would like us to believe they have one bike for every kind of riding, that is never really the case. But at some point you can absolutely have too many. Where is the limit? It is different for everyone and you never know how far you can go until you have gone too far. This sport is all about pushing the limits. So go ahead and add another bike to the collection!!

I presently have 5 bikes, with 4 registered and my VFR750F undergoing my usual resurrection procedure. I just sold my 6th bike, which was a stock 1983 CB1100F. I found myself riding it less and less after I finished my first CB1123 resto-mod, then even less after I finished the second one. Those are my two favorite bikes and get ridden often. So there was no point in keeping the stocker around any more if it was going to sit. My GL rests in the shed down at the beach cottage and is my vacation/long weekend ride.
It was fun having a collection for a while, but the constant maintenance, the need to winterize every year, and the ongoing "issues" that can crop with these bikes got old for me. I see myself selling the VFR750F when it's done if I don't love it.
