Fuel pump bypass

Cheap easy mod to prime the carbs after drain down or when your wing has been stood for a while. Just open the fuel cock open the valve wait a minute close the bypass valve then start her up. Ideal for early wings with mechanical fuel pumps.
Saves all that cranking.

Great idea. Any pics of one set up on the bike? It’s one thing that annoys me as I religiously run the bowls dry now after getting sick of pulling the carbs off and cleaning when it sat to long and I had not run it dry.

I find as long as the gas cap hasn't been moved there is enough natural pressure in the tank to push the fuel through even when its quite low.

Perhaps when outside temp is high. But in cooler weather the pressure will go down and won't be as successful at feeding the carbs which are then above the fuel level.

I was thinking along those lines too, isn't the whole idea of the pump because in general there is no height, gravitational pressure difference, between the gas tank and the float bowl(s)?

Man, do I like this idea. However, like cyborg, my 1000 also employs an electric fuel pump but the vast majority of them don’t. This is a great idea.

i gotta admit, I'm not as totally convinced as you are.

So you've either got to put the bike up with a full tank of gas for long enough for the bowl(s) to go dry. Or go down the road, get gas and fill it up, just to save a few seconds of starter motor use? Hmmmm!
