After a record is set, the engine has to be measured to verify displacement.
I'm taking the head off: Officials measuring the bore and stroke: YES! one happy motorcycle racer:

Re: GL1000 - Land Speed Racing Record Holder
Congratulations! Very special. I won't tell my wife that a GL1000 just broke the land speed record for a liter bike - and that I have an 1100.

Re: GL1000 - Land Speed Racing Record Holder
I notice original-style carbs. Still think that is best performance for a 1000 without supercharging or FI.

Yes, the engine is pretty much stock.
Dyna, new valve and clutch springs and I bumped the primary mains from a 60 to a 65.
That's it.
Well... and a whole lot of tuning and tweaking.

And ... still carrying the centre stand ... or do you just put it back on for servicing ?
Great achievement !

Re: GL1000 - Land Speed Racing Record Holder
Center stand is great for working solo - really takes two to get it on a pit stand (unless you have a side stand, and even then it is tricky).
I see you kept the front upper motor mount bulkhead intact. Did you also keep the fan?

Re: GL1000 - Land Speed Racing Record Holder
Since I went racing by myself - no pit crew (my wife was with me of course), It was imperative that I could do everything that might need done alone.
The center stand was the best option for me.
The thing that I think is neat is that I tuned my bike here at my house (which is pretty close to the same altitude as the salt flats) and loaded it up on the trailer.
When I unloaded on the salt, I never had to touch a screw on the bike, I just put gas in it and rode it.
It never missed a beat, never leaked a drop and was ready to go back out on the track when I took
it into impound to be measured.
Yes, the fan is still fully operational.

Re: GL1000 - Land Speed Racing Record Holder
I went in to look up the particular record, but it's tough to interpret the codes used. I'm curious about the class. I'm guessing </=1000cc and normally aspirated. Beyond that I'm pretty lost about the particular class.
I was also tickled by the tires on that bike, as they look like the Shinko Tour Masters that some find to be a nice budget option for many. (We have them on two bikes at my house, including one Wing.)
