Hard to believe…

Hard to believe…
Thought my clutch was slipping but the rear tire breaks loose at about 7000 rpms in 5th gear when I wack the throttle.
First few times it happened I thought clutch was slipping but the last time it did it the rear stepped out. Sounds unreal I know. I’m back on my other bike now that the fork seals are blown again but once I get them fixed I’ll be investigating this further.
Btw I was going to put that springer front end on that has been in my garage for 20 years but it appears to be somewhat incomplete so I don’t know if I want to buy all of those expensive HD odds and ends to make it complete. The fork stem is also too short so I’d have to make one of those too. I wouldn’t mind doing that but all the other stuff looks like it adds up to about $400 then there is getting a brake caliper, line and reservoir etc. so probably not going to happen. At least right away. I’ll keep my eyes peeled for those parts I need. Maybe they’ll turn up at a swap meet or something.

Not sure what the use is to dump a clutch at 7000 rpm in 5th at a stop. Might break the tire loose but once it hooks up it will still be in 5th. Perhaps you were at speed when you did this?

Do you have oil leaking on the rear tire by chance ?

Ahhhh! Yes I do have some oil leaking. That explains it. Guess that dashes my hopes that there is some sort of super performing fuel map installed on the ecu. It does pull very hard though.

I’d be getting that fixed ASAP because if you have enough oil on the tire to spin it up like you explained then it’s a recipe for the rear slipping out and putting you on your head ! Just dangerous !

I was going to ask if the tire was old & hard but oil on it would do that too.
When I got my GL500 its rear tire was old, hard and close to bald. I started it in the garage while testing things, at on it, put it in 2nd and held the front brake while gently let the clutch lever out expecting to feel where the friction point was by the load on the engine, confirming that the clutch was good. When the engine just stayed at the same RPM as I released the clutch lever I figured the clutch plates were shot until I got off and saw the black mark on the smooth concrete from the tire spinning.
Needless to say it had a new tire before I took it on the road.
