Workshop Refresh

#1

Post by cfairweather »

I have had this external 2 car garage since 2009 and have used it as my workshop. When I had it built, I had it insulated and sheet rocked, but I never painted it because after all, it was just a workshop. A couple of years ago I added a natural gas heater and this year I decided it was time to work in a cleaner, more organized environment. I gave away and threw away a lot of stuff and cleared out the entire garage so the makeover could begin. If some of you are wanting to epoxy a floor, consider an alternative that is better. The professionals that I used said that Polyurea was a better choice. They top coat the flakes with polyaspartic and it seems this is the combo that many professionals are using on concrete. It is expensive to have someone do this process. They grind the concrete to ensure the polyurea will bond properly and it cost about $5,500.00 to have about 800 sq feet coated. I am pleased with how it turned out and decided to take some pictures of it while it is perfectly clean. It will never look like this again :).

Thanks. I will take more pictures once I have everything back it. Notice I had them cover the cracks. I got tired of rolling things across them.

I hope you are right, but it is kind of rough. They do that for safety reasons, but if I had it to do over, I would have them put a smoother top coat on. They used a squeegee and then rolled it on with a paint roller. I wish they would have only used a squeegee. It will be fine and a huge improvement over plain concrete.

Hi Cedric. Beautiful shop. Like all your work is impressive.
I too had our garage floor with a the same product in 2020. It still looks amazing. The garage not so much once you start to use it. It is great to have a clean slate to start with.

Your garage looks great too! I also notice you used slat board on your walls. How do you like these?

Hi Cedric. Yes the slat wall works great. There was a bicycle shop closing down and he had the slat wall for sale. So I picked up a trailer load. I painted it beige and installed 6 x 2 x4 led panels for lighting. I also used a product called truss core on the ceiling and bottom walls. It is a vinyl interlock strips of 16 inches. Makes a very bright space.I also installed shelves above the overhead door and the windows. My ceilings are 15 feet high so I thought It was a good use of the space. The floor is also heated so I can play in the winter..

I am still working so I don’t get a lot of time for bike projects even though I have many in line.

You did an excellent job with your shop. The high ceilings are nice and you could add a lift if you wanted to do that. I think my ceilings are about 9' if I recall. I have an upstairs area where I have a professional grade slot car track. It is a 4 lane HO track and it is on a 6' X 16' table. I also plan on moving my 3D Resin printer system upstairs.
