GL 1000 resurrection

#1

Post by Knobi »

Hello Everyone. I have two 1976 Honda GL1000 LTD in nice condition with low miles. But they have been sitting for a while and need at least the carbs rebuilt. Does anyone know a reputable shop in the Phoenix AZ area, who might specialize in these older Honda's ? It seems like most facilities are only able to handle modern motorcycles. Thank you

Welcome from Wisconsin. Obviously I'm not from the area, so no clue about local shops. I'm curious, though, if you plan on doing most of the wrenching yourself. It is certainly more cost effective, and with a little perseverance, very rewarding. I would add that while the carbs are not all that difficult to rebuild, few shops will take the time to do them right (and use the best kits).
If you can remove the carbs yourself (it's a fairly easy task), there's a well respected member here robin1731 who has his own shop and will rebuild/ ship your carbs. I highly recommend him!

I acquired my first ever motorcycle five years ago at the age of 70. Like yours, my first was and is a 76 Ltd. I retired at 70 and have really enjoyed learning how to work on these bikes. I now have rebuilt two more. This group has bee invaluable. They are patient, very experienced and generous. I would encourage you to roll up your sleeves and embrace the journey. (unless you are still working and have kids at home). Welcome to the group.

Welcome to the 'Wingdom …

I too recommend that you try it yourself … these old gals get expensive if you’re paying a shop
