Brake rotors drilled & machined

I just received my brake rotors back from being drilled & machined.

I sent them to Tom @ Truedisk down in Michigan. They turned out Awesome! In my opinion.

I’m also rebuilding all my Master cylinders & calipers with new kits & caliper pistons, brake hose all done last winter.

I am also wondering about a little wear on my caliper brackets where the pads sit, slight groove there.
Not sure if anyone else has ever run into it, and how to possibly fix it.

I have one idea that I am thinking about.

+1 on the retainer. They often 'got lost' while changing the pads.

I don’t see that retainer listed in the breakdown diagram/fiche.
Is that listed for other years than 1975?

Sorry, it looks like the shims were put into use on the 78 and later models, which used a different caliper design...

1. Just ride it.
2. Fill the spots with JB weld and file the spots flush.
or
99. You could have someone TIG weld some aluminum into the spots and finish it flush.

I know which one I'm voting for.

I can only assume that the steel retainers introduced on the 78's were the factory's solution to this very issue.

Steel brake pads moving back and forth across the alloy are sure to cause wear.
If it were bad enough, I could see it causing the brake pads to not slide smoothly and bind.

I would think that filling the low spots with JB weld would not be a good idea,
as it's even softer than the aluminum and would wear even quicker.

Probably the easiest thing to do would be to polish out the wear best you can and carry on.
(although you might have to do it again in another 50 years).

Yes, I thought JB weld too.
I actually have a Brand of Wurth crazy glue that when used with the activator sets up very hard that I’m going to try, as it is not very deep & I think JB weld might not stick properly.
