My senior year in HS I did a semester of self study on DC time constant circuit analysis. Then in 78 the Navy backed that up in Basic Electricity and Electronics (BE&E) and Aviation Electronics A (AVA) Schools. Both touched on DC Circuit theory and Capacitive resistive time constants (RLC and XC Circuits). It used to be just one school for field techs and back shop techs but I think they finally split them up. It is not terribly difficult until you throw the capacitive discharge rates in there, that adds a bunch of variables all dependent on the capacitors design. So 45 years ago I could have done the math on this but that is all gone from my head now
I am not well versed on the electronic ignition modules, do they even use a Capacitor?

Interesting thoughts. Capacitors are alive and well. Learned from my project that capacitors are used to bridge between a power and ground circuit to ensure stability in the power circuit. Probably learned this years ago, but no recollection of it at all.

The 1200 GW FI Model has a capacitor attached to the output from the RR that goes to the starter relay and ignition switch. This capacitor is of sufficient size to a "smoothing" of the power in the circuit. Have read that owner's have removed this capacitor not realizing what it is there for.

We learned a lot about a host of issues and as you mention, most has gone the way of the Dodo bird. I have a theory that I try to abide by depending on the issue. A lot of people have gone through the trouble to theorize and prove many an issue, and far be it from me to question this. Had an acquaintance in the Navy who spent an inordinate amount of time trying to change the equation for projectile motion - he was the engineer in charge of the weapons system on our ship. He was successful up to a specific point, then hit the proverbial brick wall - same point in the equation every time. He eventually capitulated and accepted that he was not going to make a change.

Same with this topic and my project. Don't want to redesign what is available, but do want to understand what I am doing and why I should be doing it.

Cheers.

Like I said most of that knowledge is gone but one thing I do recall is that Capacitors are a major part in Filters, acting like you stated as a stabilizer. Really do wish at times that those brain cells were still functioning.

Right there with you. I guess when they sy that if you don't use it.... you lose it.....has a little truth to it.
