Went through them once but it was a long time ago. it was real close to 40 years ago. I really do not remember much. We were transferring from Maine to Hawaii and we visited her Brother at a Sub base then drove down the coast

Yep that was a quick decision. She approved so we will extend our trip to Crater by a day and add a 1 night stop in Garberville Ca so we can do the Avenue of the Giants.

Hotel in Garberville Ca is locked for the redwoods run. Called the hotel direct and they gave me a nice military discount. 130 instead of 160 a night.

The run from here to Rapid City breaks down perfectly into three 9 hour days on the Slab. So barring any weather or unforeseen nastiness (or necessary breaks) I "can do" the run in 7 days. So there and back and the side trip while there should be no more than 18-20 motel nights. I am not counting pennies but I do have a Home Improvement project I need to get back to work on after the holidays.

took us a heck of a lot longer to get into the Dakotas, but I was hauling a 30ft trailer and the wind was blowing!

I remember my ride to and from Oregon a few years ago. had a bad day on the way out and another on the way back. Got off the bike at the end of the day and felt like I had been in a wrestling contest with a gorilla!

Sturgis is the first through the tenth. Wondering how bad it will be to find a room in Rapid City then. On the way out I will probably be there about the 2nd. May have to reroute south of there... Have to study on that some.

you will not find a room for a night when Sturgis is going on. Most motels have a minimum stay requirement and the prices are HIGH

May have to go further afield. even cheap places anywhere near the south side of Yellowstone in august are 300 plus a night. Might actually be cheaper to stay in the park! Still looking at options

Really hard to get reservations in the park they fill up fast. Last year we were to stay at a KOA outside of glacier and it was about $150 a night to park our trailer

We experienced the same thing when riding in Wyoming last year.
Cody ended up having the cheapest rooms in the Yellowstone area.

Yea I can get into a Best Western in Cody for 200. May have to go that way and then North West up and run beartooth across and pickup 90 west. Cody to my final destination is only a hair over 1200 so an easy couple of 600 mile days. Des Moines to Cody is 1,000 miles. After a couple 600 mile days getting to Des Moines that would be a bit much.

Might be 80 and 84 across. Des Moines to Cheyenne to Twin Falls to the coast. That would be the most direct and keep me away from yellowstone and the ridiculous prices. It would be 5 600 mile days Coast to Coast. That way i could spend more time and money on the way back.

May have to start over from scratch, More studying needed

As usual the best laid plans....... Not sure this is going to happen. I called in for a referral in to ortho for my knee this morning. The Pain gets old but I can handle that, problem is that now it is staying swollen for weeks at a time. I had it cleaned out about 3.5 years ago so the next step I am pretty sure is to swap it out.

I mentioned it to the Wife a couple days ago and she says "Oh good we can take the truck to Oregon!!" I asked her straight up this morning and she is starting to seriously like the idea of going in the truck.

just have to wait and see what happens with the Doctors. Maybe if I can get things moving along I can get the knee swapped out and be back to 100% or close before then.
