Damping 😁😁😁😁

I know my 81 CBX had those but they literally fell apart when I had the vented disc’s off for whatever reason which was before breakfast so I don’t remember why I had it apart, but those shims were not available so I didn’t replace them, I didn’t figure they really could do much anyway eh ?

So now for the past 20 or so years its had a low speed harmonics/squeal when coming to a stop, not loud but there. I’ve tried 3 different pads on it, even lightly sanded the rotor faces to break the glaze and then just figured it was just a thing with those rotors.

But now I’m kinda thinking maybe I need to put some back in, I dunno ! Or maybe I used dampening shims instead of damping shims 🙈🙈 Sorry Bob, sometimes ya just gotta laugh !

Thanks for the input. I finally started to clean the 83 front wheel and sure enough there is a gasket like material stuck to the wheel. Couldnt get it off without destroying it so I picked up some gasket material on Amazon. When I get it back together I'll check the position of the caliper on the rotor and see what it looks like. Wonder if I do run it should I re torque the rotor after running some miles.
Anyway I'm a long way from that in my build. Just trying to get all the pieces and parts lined up.

Not sure on the 1100 but I think the 1000 rotor nuts are supposed to be a one time use IIRC. Most of us just give them a good squeeze with pliers to make sure there is sufficient "run on" torque. They are a self locking style nut. Torques for the 1000 are here: viewtopic.php?t=41020#p424090
should be very close to the 1100.

Thanks for the info. I looked for new hardware for the rotors but couldn't find anything. Guess those self locking nuts wiĺ be ok to reuse.

Hey guys, its been awhile but I finally took my first ride on the 82. In response to the spacer material between the wheels and brake rotors, I did cut some .75 mm gasket disks and used them when bolting on the rotors. The brake calipers lined up perfectly in the center of the disk. I've only done 10 miles (still need a tag) but everything seems ok.
I haven't been posting but thanks for all the unknowing help the forum has provided and thanks to Robin for doing my carbs. As soon as I get a tag ill let everyone know how it is running.
What I did:
Stripped and cleaned, painted frame, motor, fuel tank.
Rebuilt Front end with progressive springs.
Rebuilt brake calipers with SS lines.
83 wheels, rotors resurfaced.
Carbs rebuilt by Robin.
New fuel pump.
All new hoses, cables and hardware.
New timing belt.
Aluminum radiator, new thermostat, hoses.
Polished aluminium engine pieces.
Bunch of other stuff.

Still have some bugs to work out but all in all pretty good for one that sat for 20 years.

Probably should have documented the progress but guess I'm not that organized.

Sorry the pics are sideways. Couldn't figure out how to fix them. I'll post a couple more when it's outside off the lift.
